PBR Textures When old meets new

My understanding is that PBR textures are mainly for close up where the detail can be seen but at further distances the old textures are fine.
I have found using PRB textures at a distance in landscaping causes white lines due to sharp angles in the terrain from point of view which can be seen up to 2 boards from the track

Now Tony Stated " TIP: don't mmix and match PBR ground textures and old style textures. They do not play well together! " and
Windwalkr stated " It's fine to mix both in the same route, just try not to transition backward and forward between them too frequently, or (perhaps) too near the track "

Now going by the two statements above

How far from the track do you change to old type textures and blend the two so not playing well together is less noticeable ? or
To just stay with all PBR Textures and use ground cover and trees etc to cover any area where the lines appear in the landscape ?
