PATCO

I don't know where to find any PATCO trains, but looking at that pic led to looking at more train pics (PATCO then SEPTA) and then it was over an hour later.

I hold you responsible for my lost time.:hehe:

Your best bet would be some of the NYCTA trains, reskinned as appropriate to PATCO with a modified cab. However, PATCO uses cab signaling, something I haven't yet seen in Trainz.

Well, I mean redoing your own cab. I can pretty well picture the PATCO cab - throttle/brake lever, the cab signals, the analog speed displays and I may have some books with pics. I think one could probably just reskin based on a photo of the PATCO cab and place a few simple controls and instruments. Everything is right in front of the operator, as opposed to, say, many passenger or freight locomotives and the layout is pretty simple. From my (limited) experience with the NYCTA cars, just some of the controls need to be repositioned.

Again, though, the lack of cab signaling is a major issue.

I believe so. I am dipping my toes into content creation. I took a look at the NYCTA trains. I am confident they could fulfill the role of PATCO trains with an external reskin. The cabs are a bit trickier. The cabs are trickier since the cabs in PATCO trains are essentially desks, which is not the case in the subway cars. But basic train shape and acceleration and performance would be the same. I think jeffmorris' NYCTA BMT/IND R27/R30 Subway Car,<kuid2:44558:27:4>, fits the bill most closely, and even has an interior for it which *somewhat* matches a PATCO interior, though it would need some work to be prototypical.

I just took a look at magicland's NYCTA cab <kuid:58843:19998> and it's basically just a box with windows and two control stands inside, one for the throttle, one for the brake. No "desk". I'm guessing you or someone would have to make such a beast. The desk-type console is common for newer prototype locos (I know the SD-80MAC uses one) and the combined throttle/brake handle, used in the PATCO cars, is a feature common in Light-Rail Vehicles (even though PATCO is considered Heavy Rail) like the RiverLINE, IIRC. You wouldn't be able to accurately use either for the PATCO vehicles anyway but I'm trying to give you an idea what's out there. To properly model PATCO would definitely require a new mesh, but hopefully this description will help you.

Again, though I don't take PATCO too often, I can probably get you pics should you wish to do some modeling within a reasonable period of time. It's not far and the spectacular ride over the Ben Franklin Bridge doesn't require twisting my arm too much. :D
