Hi

I running TSR 2010 now. Got a question. How can we edit rolling stock and locos? Is there a paintshed like in TRS 2006?

Tnx for your help.

I think that the paint shed for TRS2006 is the last version Auran made...
I don't think you can get it on disc a anymore.

Thanks for info but they talk about .tga files. Looks like TRS2010 doesnt have .tga files. And Inffantview won open anything in my editing file. Any ideas?

visit this site...

http://trainzresources.com/

There is more than Irfanview on here, and loads of tutorials on using photoshop, gimp, paintshop pro with download files too...

It is strange that TRS2010 doesn't have .tga files, as these are art files, and should be in the body art folders and so on...

Theres not a single .tga file in TRS2010. There were in TRS 2006 as I kept it installed.

Now, either GIMP or Arcsoft photostudio doent recognize the .texture files as image files, neither does Infantview.

Is there somebody at Auran that is reading us? How can I edit locos and rolong stock as it was advertised?

Thanks for your help.

Dig in things like wikibook Trainz and the tutorials. The built in content often comes in a combined texture file so I think there is a pev tool that makes the texture file accessible.

Legacy-file converters...

 PEVSoft has a group of tools to open files not previously viewable.

.texture files are binary files...is this the format for TS2010?

Yes, John got me on the right track :hehe:

PEV soft have a .texture to .bmp or .tga converter. It will convert the .texture to let you make changes with gimp for exemple and than, I believe it will reconvert the .bmp to .texture

I'll make a try tomorrow. It should work. I'll post results here. Thanks very much!

Yes, TS2010 uses .texture

I think I am closer to success but having some other issues

When I get back to Content manager, it says my edited loco is faulty and I cannot commit it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

step one clone the asset.

Step two use pev's tool to extract the texture file.

Step three note the file size.

Step four edit in GIMP, paint.net etc.

Step five note the file size again. If different save it again this time with compression turned off.

Step six commit, if you still get an error post the error here.

Thanks John.

I made a reskin, same file size, commit, all went ok in Content manager.

Then, when trying to create a session in Surveyor, my reskined locos name appears in red in the list and I cannot add it to the session I am trying to create.

I get most of my reskins in Red too in Trainz 2009, the content works without errors in Trainz 2009 Compatibility mode, but as soon as you place it in Native mode, you may find that your content vanishes, doesn't exist at all or creates a red dot at the bottom of the screen with errors. If you then go back to Compatibility mode, your content returns, but in red in the menu again...

OK, here's where I am:
Got .textures converted to .tga, made changes to a loco, get back to content manager, not faulty, select commit, launzh trainz.

Open a route and in surveyor, I see my modified loco, can add it on the rail, see it, all is ok!

But, suveyor tells me its cant save the new route session and ask me to get back to content manager.

CM tells me my new route or session is faulty but I have no clue why. Any suggestion?

I am getting closer but I am not done yet :o

However there are many other tutorials available for re-skinning its fairly basic, clone the asset, dig out the texture file, usually .tga and use a graphic editor on it such as Paintshop Pro.

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz

Has some information on where to start and what software works including the free stuff such as paint.net or GIMP.
