Painting Built-in Stock from the DLS when not a paintshed template

AJC

Bagpipes and Trainz
G'day everyone!

I found on the DLS the other day that someone had managed to access the QR M series lander car and repainted them, but they are built in. I've tried several different ways to access them to paint them in the old livery, and they all seem to fail. If anyone knows how to repaint this stock, I'd be grateful to know!:D

Cheers

Andy

Most of the time, you will need to clone the asset(s) you wish to reskin (if they are built-in) then use a graphics program (like the GIMP or Paint Shop Pro or similar) to edit the .TGA files.

With built-in in engines and rollingstock. There is no .tga file only .texture files. You will need PEV Image2TGA tool to convert the texture into a .tga file. Then you need to edit it using gimp. After you will have to put in a .txt file. Search the forums on how to use PEV tools.

I've done this...and it worked while i edited the .texture files, saved them and committed the asset. then i loaded trainz and did all the usual things to find it, and when I did, the carriage was still in the original livery, not the one I had created. Is there a bit of coding I'm missing? if so, i'm an idiot for not noticing.

*NOTE: when I went back to look at the files they were also in the original livery. I must be doing something wrong. I'm not too sure what.

But the information helped greatly to me being able to get and edit the files, I'm now just trying to figure out how to commit it properly.

Did you save the textures under a different name/ folder?

No, I saved them under the same name. I've tried a few different file extensions, but none of them work. When I open it straight after saving, the colours are back to the original. I'm having difficulty pinpointing the problem.
