Paint Shed

Does Trainz 2012 have its own version of Paint Shed? I have a Baldwin 4-6-0 that I would like to attach a new paint scheme.

No, it doesn't...I think TRS2006 was the last time it was included. Search the forums...there are ways to re-skin without Paint Shed....I did some a long time ago with Paint Shop Pro....

Paintshed could only reskin a small selection of default locos and rollingstock too - steam locomotives were not part of the templates included. It was a nice bonus for the beginner, but it was really limited with what it could do.

Sourdough is right though - you can reskin content yourself without Paintshed, but it does involve a bit of work buggering around with the texture files and using a bitmap graphics program like Photoshop/Paintshop Pro/GIMP etc to recolour those textures. There are guides around online which document the process, so googling 'Reskinning in Trainz' should find what you are looking for.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'll do some research on reskinning using Photo Shop.

You are not limited to Photoshop. You can reskin using any image editing software which can read, edit, and write the ~.tga image format that Trainz requires for textures. GIMP (<http://www.GIMP.org>), wihch is a free download, can do it, and other packages can too.
