One board routes??

Good thinking. At least it shouldn't take more than a month or three.

As long as you have a solid plan it shouldn't take more that a week in Trainz to get it 100% with ultra high detail.

I saw this thread 2 days ago, and here's the progress (8.5hrs and counting):

The final shot gives a good indication of the height transition. :)

It's fully industry active, with chain routes (Grain > Mill > Packing Plant > Goods Distributor > Outside World), 4 Active Passenger Stations, and a coal mine that works with the outside world.

Good day, FirstSoloFlight,

I'm a newbie as far as route building is concerned. I have TS2009 and have been wanting to try my hand at a small one-board layout.

You emphasized the importance of having a well thought out plan

I ran across your example of a one-board layout and would like to try something like that.

Is this route on the DLS? I would like to study it, to see where the industries are and how you interconnected them with the trackwork.

Thanks,

Wes

^Nice layout design....now that's what I'd call a real good use of a single baseboard & I really like the residential section you've created there.

My very first Trainz route in Trainz 1.3 used a single baseboard. I managed to cram into that space a single track loop that ran around the edge with seven stations, an industrial branch line in the centre with a switchback to a coal mine, a number of industrial sidings (non interactive - this was in Trainz 1.3 after all ;)), and a fairly large roundhouse and servicing area. I was quite proud of it actually, although looking back, it does seem rather primitive.

Then I discovered you could add more baseboards to the single one, and from then on, I never looked back at my first route. But I still have it saved in TRS04 and occasionally load it up in Surveyor for old time's sake. :)

Puzzled

A point that perhaps somebody could clear up because it puzzles me.
I know we can choose from a selection of 'scales' when starting a new route but I don't think the buildins scale down, do they?
Somebody creates an assets, say a house, and I thought that was its size, so selecting 'N' gauge would not reduce that building (asset) in size when placed on your route in Surveyor.
If that is the case, how can those scales be true?

Angela

The only thing that changes with different 'scales' is the readout on the rulers, everything else stays the same...

Andy ;)

NG Europe 1

NG Europe 2

NG Europe 4

Some screenshots from my NG Europe maps. I made threads about them in the screenshots forum if you want to see more about them. Each map has two interactives stations (passengers and goods), one industry (logs or coal) and at least one portal.

NG Europe 5 is more challenging with two interactive stations and 5 industries : see the screenshots forum about it.

I know it is european stuff but maybe the design of these baseboards can give you some ideas for your own work.

One board routes

After nearly 45 years of railway modelling in the "real world" I was delighted to receive TRS2004 as a 75th birthday present and no longer to be limited to a maximum length of what I could a) store in easily carried sections and b) transport to exhibitions. However, I saw the request at the start of this thread as a challenge and decided to have a go.

I'm using two station layout designs by the doyen of UK model railway design, Cyril Freezer - a small town terminus and a more rural station, laid out as a terminus but capable of extension by replacing tracks beyond the station which have been "removed". The stations are on opposite sides of the baseboard linked by a U-shaped single track. Station layouts and linking track only at present, and a start on scenery using whatever I fancy from built-in, downloads, or my own work - I've always been more interested in constructing than operating.

The idea is for a section of a former branch line which is now the home of a preservation society. The only non-prototypical feature is the U-shaped linking track, but it will probably be possible to invent a reason for this. If I'm (eventually) happy with the result I'll submit it to the DLS - and probably amend it to use only TRS2004 built-in objects, like my Dukes Denver already on the DLS.

Thank you

TS 2006 with lots and lots of custom content found on the DLS if ya need the Kuid's or item info pm me..

DLS isn't working for me & quite a few folks lately or so I've heard.I started work on what should've been a one board route inspired by your project which has morphed into at least 4 to 6 so far just to fit the seaport in.

I don't know if I'll ever finish the highspeed TGV route though.
