Offensive and Abusive Posts

Unfortunately, I was unavailable for the last few day and did not realize exactly what was transpiring in the forums.

We, as community moderators can do little except ban the offender for a limited period of time if we see the posts. There is a lot of information to read everyday and we just can't do it all. That's why we depend on you reporting this type of behaviour. Please!

If we have the reports, we can act more quickly then just happening to read a particular thread.

And don't leave because of a few jerks that think that free speech means that they can libel people. It's not the case for the majority of people here that support each and every other member.

If we have the reports, we can act more quickly then just happening to read a particular thread.

I reported the post 5 minutes after it was posted , Tony was online , and he made an unrelated post 5 minutes after that . Then I reported the 2nd offensive post , Tony was still online . Some 3 hours later it was finally deleted !
And these posts were not simple attacks , but porno pictures !

Lots of others have also stated that these images were reported and I also reported them. I personally have never seen any prompt moderation action take place on these forums, largely due to the fact that there are not enough moderators.

Provoking a mutiny is a felony equal to or more than that of posting offensive posts. But I agree, lets go ahead with a military coup of Auran. We the offensive posters shall win!

I don't want to provoke a mutiny (OK I do, but let's pretend I don't(jk)), I just want Auran to take some action, and fast! (And I am angling for a Mod position)

I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the mess we have become involved with in the last few days/weeks . I am certain Auran wants this resolved ASAP , just as members appear to be very concerned .
We have all 'plugged' along on the Forum for years with nary a concern of foul language and foul pictures . It is time to regroup and continue along as it was !

As a fellow moderator I echo Boco's comment about the report feature being investigated - believe me I was surprised to see it so quiet I know it will get sorted.

If there is a post that is noticeably offensive the best thing to do is ignore that post/thread and pop onto the IRC server ( irc.auran.com ) and find your way to #trainz. Once your there feel free to notify the mods of any threads that have issues.

I never received a reported post on any of the recent flare up. In fact the last reported post I see is from last week so there must be a problem technically with the reporting system.

Either that or some smarty has shut it off . If the fourms mods have got to much to read , there are a few fixes . A) more mods B) less Fourms C) apoint mods to just one area. Ie mods for just the trainz Community section

Give all new members who wish to join the Forum a months probation. Each post is read and approved by a moderator before being released on the Forum.
Other non-Auran Forums have tried this approach and its really cut down their abusive/offensive post's. It will also prevent 'the banned' getting straight back under a new name.
OK: their post will be delayed for about 24 hour's but it will stop the 'not wanted'

What Pete is describing sounds like the Suggestion Boxcar forum, only on a much larger scale. A smart idea I think if Auran can pull it off.
