Hello,

Just found these two train dispatching programs thought others may be interested. They are free.

Train Director 3 - Single Player
http://www.backerstreet.com/traindir/trdireng.htm

Freight Yard Manager - Seems to be multi-player
http://www.fymanager.co.uk/Xfiles/rules.html

The first one is predominantly European routes but its open source software and contains editors etc so would be great to see routes/layouts expand to include some UK and US stuff. The second is just US and Canada routes.

:)

Interesting ... But seems to be just looking straight down on teeny trains, and as fun, as a real job ... it shows allot of potential for a fun game.

Thank you for the dispatcher programs. I'll take a look at these when I have more time.

A brief look at Train Director shows that we can create our own layouts to control.

No problems John,

Yeah train dispatcher seems quite versatile as it is open source software. If you get the chance, download some of the Spanish and French scenarios they are complex and great :)

I've certainly come across the top mentioned one before. My only concern is that it does look almost exactly like the heritage Train Dispatcher programme so we can only hope the author(s) are not in breach of any copyright issues.

So far as the UK is concerned, the best despatching game is undoubtedly Simsig which has its origins in the software used in real IECC's around the country. If you are looking for a bit more than route setting and regulating trains, the old SIAM railway games give you motive power allocation/servicing to look after as well as the signalling. Downside is the best ones (Gold and Platinum range) are very expensive given the age of the simulation engine and crude graphics, not to mention they need to be run in a MS-DOS emulator such as DOS Box.

Hey Vern,

You are right in that Train Director is essentially a clone of Train Dispatcher, I was under the impression that the latter is no longer being offered for sale anyway.

thanks for the SIAM suggestion, it looks interesting but wow that's some hefty prices lol.

Has anyone tried the Rail Traffic Controller Vol I through III games on simulator central?
