Odd Level Crossing problem

The UK Full skirted barrier crossings do not work even with the ATLS on my routes, only the Half Barrier. They have never worked right in 06, and as I re-call, Bloodnok said he had no intention of ever fixing them for a version of Trainz (06) that did not function correctly. They were made for 04 but CMP and 06 did'nt like them and thier buggy scripts.;)

All ATLS is doing is making the crossing 'think' the train is coming when you want it to, rather than using Trainz built-in defaults. Whatever crossing you use will work the same, with or without ATLS. It's just the timing that you are changing.

I have found that after you have installed some ATLS controllers, slaves, and triggers, you MUST save your session files, or the info you entered (channel #, etc) will be gone when you re-start your route.

Just keep saving the session when you save the route, as this is the default anyway.
Be sure to back up both route and the session files that go with them.
I've also found that using Junction Controller v2 is the same way with sessions.

Yes, you must save the session or all settings will be lost. As Stagecoach says, you can also save settings to a map but you must do this manually. There is a lot of information to save and its time consuming. Its far, far quicker to save a basic session and re-save different sessions from that.

The map saving facility is really there for scenario code writers as they don't use sessions. For scenarios its the only way. I don't think there are many of us scenario writers left!!! :'(

To test run any crossing setup it is necessary to save the route anyway, and if you're using a loco then it becomes a session as far as I know.
I will 'play' with these assets as soon as possible because I like the idea of being able to close the crossing well before the train arrives, standard practice in the UK. I have company coming today so it may not be possible until tomorrow.

Boat mentioned that the distance the Triggers are set from the crossing is critical but I am not sure quite what he means as I thought the idea was to have them at a greater distance from the crossing than the built-in trigger circle, so allowing the gates/arms to close/drop before the train arrived.

But first I shall run through the Tuts....

Many thanks for all the help,

Angela.

An Update

Just to let those folk who came in with suggestions and help - I have the system working...... hooray!
And it works well too, no problems once I took a bit more notice of the Tuts. Trains activate crossing gates at a good distance just like they do here in the UK, while driver sit and twiddle their thumbs - or whatever else they choose to twiddle... sitting in their cars or lorries waiting for the train to eventually arrive.
I first set the close pause to 4 seconds but 0 works quite well and is about the same time lapse as the default in Auran programming.
My next step is to experiment with lift and swing bridges. Can't see why they souldn't work the same way, time will tell.

Thank you to Boat for these great assets, why didn't I ever try them before! Must be nuts...

I didn't get any of the Adrian ones because they need a colour light that has to be downloaded from an outside source, a pity those assets weren't configured to use ones available on the DS.

Many thanks again to all the great help and advice, as is usual on this great forum.

Bless you all,

Angela

EDIT :- Yep, and the bridge works fine...

Which colour light are you refering to? Ive got all of Adrian19's content from the DLS and all will work fine. The sample i linked to earlier uses Adrian19 content all from the DLS aswell as Boats. They are all configured to run with the content on the DLS.

The colour lights were for his own signals I think, can't remember which ones. I did a search on ATLS and they all popped up, both Adrian's and Boat's.
It is an outside link in that bright torquise colour with no other download options, only add to basket I think, and I won't download those, no point in making life any more complicated than it is.

Oh, I only search up to 2004, not any of the later versions of Trainz.

Blessings,

Angela
