Hey all.

Obo's Trainz Locomotive Catalog has reached a milestone: 2000 entries. If you're not familiar please stop by for a look:

Obo's Trainz Locomotive Catalog

As always, thanks to the many content creators who have done such a great job populating the Trainz universe with a large and diverse array of motive power.

If one of your favorite trains is missing please mention it here and I'll add it to my to-do list.

Onwards to 3000!

Regards,

Rob.

Thanks for your efforts. I have used your site a number of times with great results.

Kanram, Duane, John, and John: Thanks for the kind words.

Again, I'm taking suggestions, so if anyone has any feel free to post. The bad news (for me that is - it's good news for everyone else) is that 2000 entries still isn't close to being comprehensive, and new material is released every day!

Regards,

Rob.

You might want to remove the Italian locomotives. They haven't been available for a year.

Thank you for the great site. It helped me when I used Railworks, too.

Your catalog is also one of the reasons for helping to inspire me to make new characters in Nick the Steam Engine.

When I first stumbled upon your catalog, I was like "Hot Dog!".

Congrats obo! I can't remember how many times your site has saved me from stress-related hair loss over figuring out where XYZ locomotive is available from.

On a side note: are there any plans to expand the catalog to include non-motive power rolling stock, perhaps?

Mart, farecoal, NTSEFAN, Xengeance: cheers.

I view the catalog as not just a search tool but also as a record of what has been done, so I leave up entries even when the download is no longer available. Also, content sometimes reappears, in which case the entry might help somebody track it down.

On a side note: are there any plans to expand the catalog to include non-motive power rolling stock, perhaps?

This has come up a few times. I'd love to see somebody do this but it won't be me. My current projects already eat up enough of my time plus I don't really have the knowledge to cover rolling stock properly. As I've said elsewhere, I think a rolling stock catalog would require local expertise as it is much more difficult to identify a freight car than a locomotive.

Regards,

Rob.

I thought about doing that when I started the Trainz Resources Directory around 18 months ago. Do you have any idea how much effort is involved? It's a full time job for than one person and the rewards are zilch. I quickly removed the section from my site but replaced it when the subject was raised in the forum mid last year. I decided to leave it there for people to look at, but hey, it's just a drop in the bucket. In fact I only list about 120 assets from the 150,000 plus available. The content creators are either not interested or can't be found, so I had to do everything, just as Rob probably has to do.

Just click my sig and click Assets in the menu.

Then I got the forum knockers who told me I was competing against the DLS blah, blah, blah. The number of people who look at sites like mine is tragic. Although I've had well over a million page hits in 18 months, well over half come from Google searches for non TrainZ related stuff.

Rob has done an outstanding job considering that he's gone beyond Trainz to cover other virtual Train material. As he said, by specialising in locomotives only, he still hasn't touched the sides.

Stick with it mate. OH btw, I did forget to your last email many months back, but many of your suggestions ate being implemented as I speak!

Yes the catalog is great for finding stuff.

But I have one question. Isn't yukonzoom the creator/author of the F59phi? robin_hood just converted it to be in TRS 04 and 06

hert:wave:

Hi hert.

The "author ID" for each entry is just the name corresponding to the locomotive kuid. I stay away from a more elaborate credit system as it is too easy to get wrong and upset people. In the majority of cases the kuid is the only information I have anyway, so I'm just keeping it simple.

I love love love your catalog, too! Superb resource! Thanks for all your hard work and time.

Dave

Edit: I guess it would also be too much work to add which versions of Trainz the locos will work with, eh?

Hi Dave.

Yeah, trying each in different versions would probably be too time-consuming to add as a feature. I'm currently a 2006-only operation, so everything in the catalog works in that release at least.

At some point I'll have to upgrade to 2010. When that happens I'll have to add tags indicating which version each screenshot was taken in.

Rob.

Well, if you've reached 2000 locos you obviously have too much time on your hands anyway. ;) What I'd like to see, in addition to compatibility, is categories like original, reskin, and which ones have working cigarette lighters. :hehe:

Obo, I also thank you for that catalog as it's helped a trainz-newbie like me get quickly acclimated to whats out there...

If I could mention, I believe JointedRail's NS SD40-2 High Hood is missing from your catalog... If it's in there and I missed it, I apologize.

Thanks again!

EDIT: I just noticed that most, if not all, of their stuff is missing... So I assume you're not posting them? My mistake!

Team4R:

I think have all of JointedRail's freeware listed apart from their recently-released Amtrak locomotives, which are in the queue. I only have one payware item listed because, well, payware costs money.

Glad to hear you found the site helpful.

Regards,

Rob.
