Objects packaged

Hello; I would like to know if packaged objects (especially locomotives and rollig stocks) can be modified in Trainz 2019.

Packaged usually means a Freeware item (most likely from the DLS but there are exceptions) that has been included in a DLC "package" you have downloaded. Placing freeware assets in a DLC package makes them faster to download and the user does not then have to download them separately from the DLS (or another source). There are some assets that are labelled Package, Payware that may not be possible to modify.

Packaged assets usually can be modified like DLS assets BUT there is a issue. Like Built-in and Base assets, packaged assets have textures that are more highly compressed and stored in the .texture format, not in the .jpg, .png, .tiff, .tga formats used by DLS assets - this trick saves space and download time. So you will not be able to use graphic software to edit the textures unless you can convert the .texture file to a .png, .tga, .jpg, etc. There is a utility program available on the web that will do the conversion.

Look at Shane Turner Tutorials - the PEVSoft page. The utility is called Images2TGA.

Of course, if you are going to modify anyone else's work and upload it to the DLS or anywhere else then you must get their permission to do so.

Thank you pware!
Another question: can't packaged objects even be deleted?
I have never actually tried to delete a Packaged asset. I suspect, without any supporting evidence, that because they are supplied as part of a DLC package then they cannot be deleted but you can Uninstall a DLC package using the Content Store option from the Launcher. This will remove the package and all it contents including any Packaged assets. That would mean that any other asset (e.g. a route) that used the deleted Packaged asset as a dependency would now be faulty with a missing asset.

You can't delete packaged assets because they do not exist as separate entities. The content is referenced from within the package as it is decompressed on the fly.

According to N3V, packaged download station uploaded assets are available to download from the DLS if the packaged version has been uninstalled. There have been a number of assets that were missed in the past but that's gotten better.

I have taken a "packaged" asset of one of my assets and deleted the compressed textures, then added back my TGA's and notepad texture information and comitted the asset with no problem. Then you can modify it. It can be done
