NZ pics

Hi all.
Haven't seen or herd about the Capital Connection in a while so I thought that I'd post some screenshots
I took of the Capital Connection. Seen here at North Junction.

Looking through the back windows of the cab, we see the rest of the train flowing us as we are nearing Paekakariki.

DX5097 thundering the Capital Connection through Otaihanga.

Meanwhile at Peka Peka, DC4698 is pulling the Overlander
and is getting ready to wait in the loop at Waikanae for the Capital Connection.

DC4698 is now in the loop as DX5097 passes with the Capital Connection at Waikanae. That's all I have for now. :D

"i must know were can i get the line or building?
or is it privot?"

Hi Jeran,
The line was a quick mock-up done for the pic and has since been deleted. I still have the building, but it is very basic, not sure if anyone wants it. Let me know.
Cheers,
Fender. :)

If that offer is for everyone, I think it goes without saying that I'd love a Melling, please...:udrool:

Ryan

Hi Ryan and others,
I have uploaded Melling to the DLS. Should be available in a few days. Look out for "NZ Melling Station"
Cheers,
Fender :)

I really need to get my route build on, that one scene is getting a bit boring...

Thanks Fender!

Hi itsmrb,

I worked around Stratford, Waitara and New plymouth years ago and can't for the life of me remember how trains got past the big dip by Bell Block Airodrome. Did they travel from New Plymouth to Inglewood then back to Waitara or was there a direct line from New Plymouth to Waitara?
I do remember that big dip in the road caused a bit of havoc with heavy trucks. I got stuck there once because of roadworks at the bottom of the dip.

Cheers,
Bill69

Hi Bill69,

Guess you're meaning Big Jim's hill? You are right that's a pretty steep climb - trains cross further upstream where the dip isn't as steep but still basically go straight down one side and up the other!

For all of our lifetime the mainline from New Plymouth ran East to Lepperton, then turned South to Inglewood. The line from Waitara runs parallel to the MNPL for about 1 km (also due south) before the lines meet. This ment that the Waitara shunt had to run to Lepperton, then the engine would swap ends and run to Waitara (good run for a DSC!).

Back before 1908 the junction was at Sentry Hill and both lines (from Inglewood & from New Plymouth) faced towards Waitara.

Cheers,
itsmrb

Ah yes now memories are coming back, quite a few of the locals used to call Lepperton, Lepperton Junction I think.

Cheers,

Afternoon all. Giving Fender's new goodies a run.

It's 1990, and the Melling train approaches the terminus...

I am not looking for free stuff because the routes that you have built take alot of time and you should all be payed for the work you do
so please if you can help me out please send me a PM and I well send you my email adress and we can talk

Keep up with the good work.

A Freight rolling stock question

Hi NZR fans. What are the modern day freight stock? I have been down to the Woolston yard to watch freight trains passing, but aside from observing plenty of CE coal wagons and heaps of flat wagons with pretty coloured containers on, what else is there?
Cheers,
Fender :)

Hello all,
Buses were replacing trains between Porirua and Waikanae today:

A Ganz waits for it's next run north.
nzms201210210008.jpg

Mana Coachlines was running the replacement buses. Speaking of which, this bus should be available for your routes on the DLS within the next 24 hours - Bus Dart Mana Coachlines <KUID:510748:1379>
nzms201210210003.jpg

Passengers boarding their buses. They normally run two buses - a stopping service and an express to Wellington, but a third was added to carry the extra football fans heading to Westpac Stadium.

Also, I have to agree with Jeran above. At risk of sounding a bit like a "gimme" pig, I can't think of anything better than a rake of the red 56ft coaches behind an EW or a DA. Just a thought :)
