NYCTA! pics!

Wow Ish, I like it! I'd have to say Magiclands Track over Jabeel's. Chicago only uses Slab track in the Subway, its not common on the Elevated. And in theory, you can still go back and forth using different styles of Tracks. I've been doing it using FloridaRailMasters elevated tracks and Jabeel's Elevated Crossovers. I use the Elevated Crossovers where concrete roadbed exists (even thouygh its actually ballasted track) and connect it to the elevated sections.

However I am still intersted in your track. As I'm sure you seen by now, there is a HUGE variety of track in Chicago, all cobbled together.

To really do Chicago Justice, I'd have to build all my own track, But I think I'll stop at using what others build/have built. Although I have already built one of my own sections of Track. Its a set of steel girders that support the track, but with the track removed. This is seen on the Northwest Elevated, Lake Street Elevated, and the South Side Elevated where express tracks were removed

I'm in Chicago until Monday, if you need any pictures to build with, I can grab some on Sunday during the Snowflake Special

Thank you Ish, I didn't notice that you said Klinger and I do apologize for intervening, I will gladly wait for the content to reach the DLS and only said something because I thought it was closed content (never to be released) and I should speak up. I give you my support as a Trainz member and thank you again for your wonderful NYCTA content, I'm thrilled that the Trainz Subway Community Content is expanding so rapidly. By the way, I hate to bridge this subway conversation far away, but if you have time I suggest London Underground Content, seeing as how that is apparently widely popular in subway communities in General. I am not requesting content but suggesting it, no one should take it as more than that!
Eric

Hi Eric,

No need to apology -- it's fine!

As for London contents there is some at the DLS, etc ... check out this layout by timharding east London underground line if you haven't ready! Also, London RV by glbotu! I'm using download these will give you the contents of those routes, which can you explore! In all fairness, I don't think I am going to ever do contents for my dear friends overseas! Hard to explain why so I'll pout it like this, some folks like tea while otters just like coffee!:hehe: Hope that makes sense!

Now, on the Chicago system you're welcome to make suggestions, of course, or even post pictures of the real thing, etc which would help out exploring ideas, etc!

Thanks for your interest -- glad that you like my contents!

Hi Will (Hope you don't mind me using your name!)

If you make your own track, and upload the content to the DLS then I can plug the kuids of your track into these pieces! Then ever single piece I create will use your tracks! If you have the tracks ready to go that would be great, to be honest, because I can then start plugging things in the config file from now!

On another thread I saw pictures of your work, and even commented it on! What I am going to do is make the trestles and the concrete roadbeds to match the elevated sample I showed you so that everything matches with everything else when you start using these pieces!!

If you get some free time please take pictures of the elevated stations and staircases! And anything else you think is worthy to make! There aren't too many images of the chicago stations online, etc

I'll be updating this thread with screenies as I create these items!

BTW - Do the Chicago system have 3-4 track route (on elevated trestle)?

Take care

You might find this website helpful Ish: www.chicago-l.org

There is the North Side Main Line (Brown & Purple Lines) which goes up to 4-tracks. Such as here at Belmont: http://www.chicago-l.org/stations/images/Howard/belmont23.jpg
However the NSML isn't fully 4-tracks, just in places.

Hi Peter,

Excellent site!!!! :p

I clicked on that jpg link but it didn't work, however, since it came from the site I navigated through and found! LOL

Ishie

PS.. I guess I'll tell you guys now -- two weeks from now, etc I will be in the hopsital for eye surgery, which means I won't be using the PC for a month! I'll make as much content as I can from today until the second Monday starting this weekend and upload whatever is finish!!

The one comment I can make right away is the third rail. All transit systems with third rail powered cars always put the third rail in the same basic oriantation.

For example, if you have a station on the outside of 2 tracks, both third rails will be swapped around to the inside and run next to each other. This way on both tracks, they are away from the station. Chicago has 1 stations that is an exception to this rule, but overall where ever you go, its the same.

The only thing I am worried about is curves. I can post some more pics of my route in a week or so, but I can tell you now it has lots of curves. Using pre-built trestle pieces around the curves would be hard. The rail I have been using is simply that, its rail that just happens to contain the steel supports attached to it. That way you can bend it around corners easily.

But still, I like what you have done so far.

As a matter of fact, I think I've gained interest in Chicago's el. Now if only there were some way to change the title of this thread....:p

Hey Klinger, if there are any custom CTA objects that you need besides el(like stations or subways, for example) i'd be happy to help. Just let me know and i'll do the research.

Curves are very tricky because it require lots of vertex which would then eat frame rate for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Auran keeps change the rules on this curve issue, however!:(

What I have planned if it doesn't take much time since I like to work quick and move, etc ... is just done curve objects -- I need to experiment, tho, and see how it goes! :hehe:

If you read the above in red I will be uploading late next week whatever I have done, etc, and then shut it down for about a month or so, meaning no PC!!!

NYCTA Signs

The signals package is complete--I am now working on the signs package. Here are some screens--some of them need to be fixed (font too small, etc). But, I hope you all enjoy them anyway!

Btw, all of the signs are re-nameable except for the "T", and "OPTO-S" signs. The "ST", "R", "CAR" are part of the texture with an attachment point above or below (depending on the sign), where you can put in any number you'd like!

That's great A!!!

Congratulations on the package -- it'll be well received, indeed!! :)

Whenever they hit the DLS let me know also!

Excellent A --

Just a couple of questions / suggestions?

Are you building this route in sections or whole?

I would recommend in sections!! You can easily have dozens of layout at the DLS, etc .. just give instructions on how to merge them. Also, it makes it easier, I think, to play around with the route, you know, adding train and running up and done one line, and it would make it easier on frame rate!

Scenery and custom built -- I am building my elevated route as a custom map, in where as folks can ass their own building. I would suggest that you upload a custom route, etc ... and then progress in adding scenery! -- just a thought!

And switch the junction level to another that fix more to this kind of system -- not sure if Jeff or Magic made suitable junctions items for the subway system!

Lastly, I completely forgot to add the re-nameable boards to add to each station, if you do use my stations, etc!

Well done!

Ish

BTW - PM your e-mail!

And my renditions--

New Signs I just completed:

Enjoy!

[P.S. The WillyB will be closed and torn down  as I try to make it and the MannyB more realistic in my layouts.] Sorry (J)(M)(Z) trainz riders! We'll have shuttle buses! :p

-A

P.S. The signs will be available in both right-hand and left-hand side versions. And REMEMBER--the numbers are re-nameable, but the titles (ST/GT/MILES) will not.
