NYCTA! pics!

From what I've been researching, you can overlay an invisible mesh on the existing mesh and have the destination signs work that way. I'm not sure if this is possible or just a theory floating around in the community.

Looks amazing the way you reskinned it! Hopefully, If I get the chance, I might be able to have the destination signs integrated into alexander55's R142/R142A (even if I don't have his source file)

Question is what is the difference between the 2? Only the propulsion is different, but it's looks is the same.

First, it's easy making side signs for alexander55's R142. They won't be animated but its possible. Second, the differences between R142s & R142As, look at the B Cars of the R142 & R142A. The B cars are slightly bigger. The signs are different also. The R142 side sign & interior sign blink while changing. Lastly, R142As only run on the 4 & 6 lines

INDEED it is possible. I did an invisible mesh with the signs in Blender. I can do the same with animation too u know! Not sure if BStyles is still in the works for the new R142, but if he needs the dest-signs, I can put up with that.

Still, question is, what is the difference between the R142 & R142A? Only the propulsion is different, but it's looks is the same.

@Mikey: Good question, I have no idea about the differences. I'll ask one of my transit friends and get back to you. BStyles is currently in charge of all rolling stock for BDC Projects, and the last meeting I had we discussed the R142, 143, 160 and R68 as our base projects. I've been tasked with taking care of the destination signs for those, but I will keep an open mind if we need your help!

P.S. Could you do a trial run on those 142s and put an invisible mesh with animated signs and let us know of your preliminary findings? Since rolling stock takes the longest time to complete, if your test is successful, we could add destination LEDs to the 143 as well, which for some odd reason has no destination signs at all.

huh, never'd thought that. It's like my bro, Arthur (DeviantArt user 'ArthurT2013') is trying to get much requests to be done 'on the house' lol. But no problem, If you and/or BStyles is finishing up with the R142, drop by a PM and I'm at hand!

Also, I inspected alexander55's R142s, there's no need for an additional mesh. There's actually a 'route.texture' that helds just the front and the side signs (kinda stretched a bit). I would like to add the fonts to the sides, but there's one problem, I found the exact font identical to the train's side destination LCD, but it only comes in a font-family pack (instead of separate fonts) and cost $69!! YIKES!! No one can buy that!!! So for now, I found an identical Typeface to fit the LCD signs. But I might need help to find out what the signs really say.

For example:

(5) Lexington Ave Exp | 6 Av Local
(2) Flushing | 2nd Av Express

any photo as u can and to PM me is reccomended.

I've answered your question on the differences between the 2 & you wouldn't have to pay $69 for fonts cause these were made from fonts and templates found on NYCTF

I notice several differences between the R142A and R142, exterior and interior.

The R142's were built by Bombardier and have road numbers between 6301 and 7180 while the R142A was built by Kawasaki and has road numbers between 7211 and 7810. R142 uses Asltom Onix Propulsion while the R142A uses Bombardier's MITRAC Propulsion sounds. I may not be able to spot all the differences but I know that when you see the R142 approaching, you may notice that the windows on the front of the cab are rounder than the ones on the R142A. Also, the box above the cab that shows the number of the route is a brighter red on the R142A than the R142. From the interior, I can tell that the auxillary/HVAC extend out more than th fans for the R142 and they also have different fan sounds. Another difference would be, on the sides of both subway cars, the R142 will just have a silver line between the length of the car while the R142 has a silver stripe along the length of the car. There is also the R142S subway car but it's basically the same as the R142, it just runs on the 4 line. Half of the R142A's with Road numbers between 7211 and 7590 are in the process of being rebuilt as R188 subway cars or R142A conversion sets for use on the 7 line. Along with that, Kawsaki is also in the process of building brand new subway cars that are identical to R188's with Road numbers 7811 up to around 7970 I believe.

Well now, I have the signs completed!

Note the side sign that it is fictional at the time until I can get it animated and scripted. But I need help to figure out what the side signs say (If I'm gonna make the texture pack). What I mean by that, I mean what does the sign say, in a cycle. Here are examples of I can think of (not sure if I know where it's heading to via????)

For example (separated by '|'):

(1): South Ferry | Local
(2): 7th Av Express | To 96th St
(3): New Lots Av | ???
(4): ??? | To Bowling Green
(5): To Brooklyn Bridge | Lexington Av Local

(1): South Ferry | Broadway LCL
(2): Flatbush Av | 7 Av EXP | Eastern Pkwy LCL
(3): New Lots Av | 7 Av EXP | Eastern Pkwy LCL
(4): Utica Av | Lexington Av EXP | Eastern Pkwy EXP
(5): Flatbush Av | Lexignton Av EXP | Eastern Pkwy EXP
(6): Brooklyn Bridge | Lexington Av LCL | Pelham LCL
(7): Flushing-Main St | Flushing LCL
These are all Soutern Bound signage.

(1): Van Cortlandt Pk | Broadway LCL
(2): Wakefield-241 St | 7 Av EXP | Bronx LCL
(3): Harlem-148 St | Bway-7 Av Express
(4): Woodlawn | Lexington Av EXP | Eastern Pkwy EXP
(5): Eastchester-Dyre Av | Lexington Av EXP | Bronx LCL
(6): Pelham Bay Park | Lexington Av LCL | Pelham LCL
(7): Times Sq-42 St | Flushing LCL
Northern Bound signage

<6>: Pelham Bay Park | Lexington Av LCL | Pelham EXP
<6>: Brooklyn Bridge | Lexington Av LCL | Pelham EXP
<7>: Flushing-Main St | Flushing EXP
<7>: Times Sq-42 St | Flushing EXP

That should be all of them. All of the major signs

And if you're going to make signs for the R142, could you please not use the sign that's already there. I'm not sure if you plan on making them as realistic as possible as the ones I showed you, but the one on the train car isn't realistic
