nVidia Video Card Question

I have an nVidia GTS 250 video card in my PC running under Windows XP (SP3) and running TRS-2006. I have been satisfied with the video I have. I’m considering upgrading to Trainz 2010 which says you need a GeForce 7200/128mb minimum and recommends an 8600. In simple non-technical terms, what would I get with a 7200 to 8600 that I’m not getting g now with the GTS 250 as far as Trainz 2010 is concerned? Am I likely to be dissatisfied with the video of the GTS 250 running Trainz 2010?

Uhm, you have a better GPU Architecture than the minimum requirements.
Only upgrade you should consider in the future is when Nvidia releases the 600 series dual core GPU.

-I run the same card... my specs: Windows 7 64-Bit, AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core, 3.0 GHz, 8gb ram 800mhz, Nvidia GeForce gts 250
-I have never had any problems running trainz. TS10 was a little funny after i re did windows but ts12 is by far the best outta the series!

The 2xx,3xx,4xx,5xx, and soon to be 6xx are better then the higher number series, don't ask me as to why they did this but they did...

My specs are as follows:
Windows XP Professional(64bit) SP2, AMD Phenom II X4 970 3.5GHz 8.0MB Total Cache, 8GBs of Kingston Hyper X Blue DDR3 1600mhz Dual Channel, MSI 870A-G55 (Expandable to 16GB of Ram) SATA III and USB 3.0 support, Nvidia PNY GTS 450 1GB, 500W PSU, Thermaltake V4 Black Edition Gaming Chassis. Two 1TB Seagate Momentous 7200RPM, One 1TB External Western Digital My Book Essential.

Now I suspect that the GTS 250 will behave almost on par with my GTS 450, but you may have to turn some sliders down a bit in TS2010 to run it where you don't get any lag, which I can barely tell the difference with some sliders notched down 1 or 2 notches so it isn't a real problem graphically for me, others people of course will have there opinions.

But you very well maybe able to run it at max without an issue which isn't shocking because I used to be able to run 06 with almost max settings on an old 512MB AGP graphics card with a weak processor...

If I had tried that with TS2010...yea right my computer would have rolled over and died and gave me the middle finger in the process.:hehe:

The lower end Nvidia 200 series cards (GTS 250) are based on the same GPU architecture going back to the 8800's and is actually a re-branded 9800 GTX. The higher end Nvidia's GTX 260, 275, 280 and 285 were based on an entirely different GPU.
