Been on it for a week or so no problems to report here.

Not an NVidia user anymore, but is your card overheating?

The reason why I ask is because you're heading into your spring and summer, thus warmer weather, and this can cause similar symptoms.

I had a problem like that a year ago with a new build and it was due to using insufficient quality RAM. The Driver would be installed, the card worked OK for a while then the driver disappeared and needed to be reinstalled.

I reverted from 280.26. Was getting screen tearing and weird artifacts appearing in Gmax and 3ds as soon as you moved anything, rendering both programs useless. There are or were a threads on the Nvidia forums about this driver which it seems has a lot of problems as did the beta before it, 280.19.

Problems being crashes, problems with all sorts of games, overheating, odd voltage spikes, I suggest getting rid of that driver. Nvidia said a couple of weeks back that there would be an imminent update.

Just testing Beta 285.27 here which seems on first looks to be OK. Will post back if I find anything odd happening.

Have just bought a new system: - i7 2600K, 16Gg RAM, GTX560 Ti card. It has the latest NVidia drivers. Both FSX and TS2012 shut down the system almost instantly. Interestingly FS2004 (FS9) flies brilliantly. The team who made it for me are looking into it!

How do you know if your card is overheating?

Thanks for the link and the suggestion about silverlight. The problem is not of the PC freezing but of 2 programs shutting the system down. I shall investigate though.

Have you contacted Nvidia for help. There technical service is excellent.

Poor performance, fans going crazy, graphics artifacts, etc.

I used to fix video card circuits way, way back in my young days. When video ram overheats, it puts out blocks and weird characters like smiley faces, hearts, and other random characters. This is due to the bits getting stuck up or down.

The same symptoms can indicate if there is faulty RAM or controller chip on the video card as well.

Thanks - no I haven't contacted them - the system is back with the PC builder to hopefully sort out - he thinks it is some kind of memory problem - will post the results when - hopefully - fixed!

Offhand do you know what make the Mobo and RAM were? My mobo was an ASUS M4N82 Deluxe and what I didn't realise was that they have a QVL (Qualified Vendors List) of RAM and if the RAM isn't listed there then it probably won't work properly.
I gave it to a guy who advertises in the local rag under the name PCDoctor (lolz) and HE didn't figure that out. Only when I spoke to the seller of the mobo the guy told me "the brand of RAM you are using is the equivalent of Tesco's own brand Baked Beans compare to Heinz"! He was right.

Hi

My motherboard is Gigabyte Z68A-D3-B3. Has SATA 3.0 as well as USB 3.0. The make of RAM I don't know but that is point - I'll contact the guys about this - thanks for the idea.

It looks as if they have found the problem - a faulty PSU that was falling in voltage when put under load from the graphics card - that would explain why FS9 was OK and FSX & Tr2012 set off a windows reset. New PSU being ordered!

Awesome. Glad to hear this.

The install should take you only a few minutes.
