NS Pittsburgh Sub (Large Pics)

That particular Sd70ace is SPORBUSTS, yeah... it was a freeware consist for once :hehe:
Thats what I thought but I was not sure. The textures look a little dark for his model, maybe it is just me.
Anyway, love this route and I am looking forward to running it.

Thanks Paul

Heres some Conrail Heritage taking a trailer train west. Excellent reskin done by Tycoonk4, hope the shots are up to par :)

Thanks again guys :)

Ok, so 12 has got here in the mail and I'm back to route building after a day of solid updating and transferring of content. Gonna give the Pittsburgh line a go in 12 and see what i can do with it.. the frame rates have already increased a fair bit over 09 with the billboard treez, but im not sure whether these (Pofig's from EK3) are working for this route... any opinions? This is still very early days with the trees basicly all i did was use the replace tool.

Anyway, screenshots :)

Those trees look great !

I haven't seen automobiles shipped on open cars for decades (due to rockthrowers & vandals) but they look very cool.

I don't have ANY trees on my route ( lol ) ... and Mezzoprezzo says he uses Trunda trees in his fantastic 04 nature shots (his screenshots inspire me alot, as well as your screenshots do too).

Looks really good. Just mix a few different colors in there and It will look even better.

I agree, but I couldnt find much of a variation in colour of the 100 or so treez i downloaded from Pofigs site, can you recommend any? also does anyone know if its possible to download them all in one pack other then one at a time?

Cascade: Tundras trees were in use before in the 09 route, they look great. Just with any Penn route, its very easy to over do it and kill ur PC :hehe:

Hi Scratchy

Pofig's trees used to be available in large packs but pretty sure his current site is strictly one-at-a-time which is great for locating the occasional missing tree, but a drag to get the lot. Some of Pofig's latest trees have a browner tone, but there are no bright greens.

The trees look fantastic close-up, but the issue I have with them is that the far distant LOD tree is nowhere near as bulky as the foreground version of the same tree, so you lose the full leaf canopy look on distant hillsides. This is an ST issue, nothing to do with Pofig's trees in paticular. I guess you could pack them way close in the distance, but that uses a zillion extra trees. In TS10 you can mix Trunda trees in the background (in comp mode) to get the best of both worlds, but in TS12 you are stuck with STs.

The distant-hillside look has pretty much killed my East Kentucky series, future routes will be in areas with mostly grassy fields with just occasional small woodland areas. Certainly the Appalachian forests are out, for me anyway...

I could be wrong but I believe Pofig is in the process of reorganizing his site. I thought he was moving to links that would allow downloading large groups of his trees vs. individual trees. Which is just the opposite of what Dermmy just said. A lot of information on Pofigs plans gets lost/confused in translation.

Someone made a great catalog for pofigs trees including photos and links for downloads. Unfortunately it looks like the reorg of Pofig's site has killed the links. It's still up with the photos, asset names, and kuid's. This might help you find what you're looking for. He has a few trees that are a lighter shade of green and some brown ones. I really like to mix in some of the brown ones to represent a dyeing tree. I never really noticed but looking at the forest landscape here in Missouri a little closer there are dead trees with leaves scattered throughout.

Let me know if you can't find anything that suits you and I can post some kuid's later that I've found useful to achieve so color variety.

I hate to plug Mezzoprezzo with his "texturing only" techniques, him using a choice few trees thrown in by the near trackside, and never ending fading Smokey Mountain textures on distant mountains ... but with a zillion trees, 5 miles diistant the trackside, seems un-needed ... we can all learn something from Mezzorezo's texturing technioques.

I study all the masters of Trainz, and try very hard to duplicate their talents, but I am no expert ...

I have studied Gfishers Down East Fishing Villiage, the Loop's, and his other fantasticly detailed routes, as well as JFalco's Cumberland to Connellsville, as well as many, many other creators fine detailed routes.

I also have studied the MSTS Horseshoe Curve route, and the Railworks Horseshoe route, tree techniques.

It seems that no idea is original, and whatever you create, is simply an improved offshoot, a new improved idea, of something that you once saw, someplace else, or in real life.

I think we all shoud upgrade to at least TS10, and future versions ... even me.

Yes i know, If you want to have the look, you need a zillion trees to make it work.

I was hoping you would post Andy, although I'm sad to here what I already suspected was true.. hmm, well Im sure something can be figured out along the track.. there must be a way for them to keep their shape when far away. I suppose its still early days for speedtreez yet (fingers crossed).

Yes, but while Mezzoprezzo's shots are brilliant, I'm not convinced they would look that good from every angle. I think MZPO creates small scenes with massive detail, and thats not really what im going for with mine. Besides, i hate texturing lol.

I also have studied the MSTS Horseshoe Curve route, and the Railworks Horseshoe route, tree techniques.
Their pretty basic, just loads of one type of low poly tree, trainz will look better. Railworks has pulled it off quite well, I'll give them that, but that is only really because of all the custom content that makes all the locations identifiable. This route should feature just as much custom content.

I think we all shoud upgrade to at least TS10, and future versions ... even me.
I'm suprised to here that from you :hehe:
