Not Happy

i7 950, X58 Extreme 3, Two times Nv 460GTX in SLI, 6gig OCZ Reaper Triple channel mem, WD Vraptor 150G (c drive) WD raptor 250G (other bits) WD Vraptor Sata3 450G (Trainz only), LG opticals, Cooler Master HAF case with extra sensor fans and a Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000w PSU.

Is that even in English? I almost wish I knew what it meant - and here I am "chugging along" on a 3 year old Del XPS 420 with only an Intel 4 core 2 Quad CPU with 4GB RAM, an old Nvidea 8800GT on 32bit Vista Home Premium (64 bit Windows 7 is for Wimps).

Is that even in English? ...

Sadly, it is. I greatly fear that acronyms are slowly taking over the world. Any time now the politicians will be tweeting instead of giving the full speech - and fully expecting us to figure out what they meant.

@Deano5: That is certainly a full-bore system though. I expect you have to hose it down every once in a while when it melts the mains. :hehe::hehe:

I have nothing installed other than AVG 2011 and Malwarebytes. This is indeed interesting, I keep wondering where all the ram keeps going?

My system at the moment is using 37% RAM (of 6 gig) and 50% of CPU (3.16 core duo), GPU 55% (GTX 560 Ti). I've got EK 3 running in the background.
So your 40% at idle does seem odd.

Good luck, but where in the UK roughly are you from? No problems for me in Leicester, East Midlands with downloading.

I would still say it was your local area, and not N3V's fault.

Regards.

So it is you that is draining the system:D

That's a dynomite system, you have there Deano5, with top components, but it sounds like a lot of RAM usage @ idle. I'm running on an oc'd i7 950 with the same OS; even with Norton Anti-virus running in the background, I'm running 21% RAM usage @ idle. Perhaps you should check in with the gurus over at 'Parts & Labor' forum, and see what they say! There are a couple of pros over there who might have some insight. Does a system cleanout and defrag help?

That's enough to drain your soul! :hehe:

@Deano5
You do know that posting those spec's will get some people saying that thier P.C. is better than your's (mentioning no names on here)?

As for me, I hate you!

(J.O.K.E.). Nice specification, one which I'm looking into for around Christmas (plus 40th) time for myself. :Y:

From XP onward, Microsludge has tried to second-guess your user habits with fetch programs. What these do is try to keep your RAM full at all times with any software you have used recently. That is why your processor and RAM usage is high.

In Windows 7, the fetch program has been renamed "superfetch" and it runs as a process. I have disabled mine, but that is not recommended. However, my thinking is that the few seconds you MIGHT save if you use any of the preloaded software are slowly being negated as superfetch trades those preloaded items in and out around the application you are currently using.

Also, considering Microsludge's ability to achieve perfection in any other software it has produced, I find it hard to believe that superfetch will always make the right and fastest choice for how to use your RAM.

I won't outline the process to disable superfetch here, I just wanted to clarify what may be the source of a super machine's constant grinding during idle periods.
