Northern Arizona Route

The only texture I recognize is JVC's Desert one. What are the rest used on this masterpiece?

Cheers

Yeah, I can wait too! Of course, I'll be anxiously anticipating the event, but Trainz has taught me patience, if nothing else!;)
lol, Trainz can be a tester of patience...... I get really mad at TRS 2010 sometimes cuz it locks up or does something that i dont want it to do at the most incovinent times........

Thanks,
Yes I am using some of the JVC Desert textures. They’re great and they really stand out. I also use a couple of the Navajo textures for the deep red rocks. Then I just highlight with whatever texture I think will make it work. Except for the JVC textures I’m using just built in textures.

Thanks,
I’m doing the best I can with what references I have. ‘Got a long way to go!

Yes I will be doing the Painted Desert. I am working to the East of Holbrook right now.

Here are a couple of shots of a dry river wash. I’m trying to make some of the landscape a bit blander in terms of color with sparse vegetation. From what I can see there will be numerous small beam bridges over desert washes. A lot of wide open areas will look like this on my route.

-Looks great bro! The only thing, maybe, would to be press "Q" wile in spline mode and break the spline joints on the barbed wire. Just so they don't look so curvey.

Thanks Joe,
Yeah I see that curve now. actually I do have a number of breaks but I missed a few.

-I really, honestly like how good it looks for the lack of vegetation spamming. Just goes to show if you use high-res textures, you can get away with very minimal vegetation and get great frame rates, looks etc! I'm glad your not someone that takes all there shots from ground level. That tells me your proud of your work and you have nothing to hide. Looking forward to more town pics!

Thanks again Joe, That makes a lot of sense. I have been going back and removing trees and other foliage that really in the big picture aren’t necessary. I spend most of my time in surveyor but when I run the trains I’m very pleased with the smooth frame rate. I want to keep it that way! I agree about the ground textures acting as a good fill in for some of the low desert vegetation. As I recall you actually made some of your textures from photos you took? Either way I noticed how your desert brush textures blended so well with the 3D brush on your route. I like your new Colorado picks but hope you plan on returning to your Cajon Pass soon. It looks like an awesome and very accurate route.

-Thanks and yes I did make quite a few of my textures from pics I took. Some even had to be edited because of bad sun light. I cant take more cause I'm back in Denver now, so I'll just have to work with what I took.
-Glad you like the Colorado route and thanks. As described in that thread, its just my get-a-way from Cajon. Cajon pass is very accurate as far as trackage, gradients, ...really anything to do with in and around the track. Having all the necessary info to build a proto route, track charts/plans, videos, pictures, etc. all at my disposal really helps. Even though I'm not there in person, I still have friends, family, that can be there for me. Even have a friend that lives 2 blocks away from the San Bernardino station and another friend that works for UP out of colton, runs to Yuma, AZ and back.
-Anyway, back on topic. You have a very unique skill of route building. Just the right amount of vegetation, and putting it places where it counts the most. (cant forget the asset creators too, to make this happen) Glad to have you in the community and I'll be looking forward to a finished product in the future, but take your time! Also, to get a happy comment from someone from Auran has to mean something! (most of the time there just cops policing there forums :hehe:) I know it would for me!

AJ, Eaglefan9727, Mike and Joe, thank you for the kind comments!

Joe I appreciate the insight into all the prep and work you’ve done on your route. I still have plenty of detail work to do around track already in place but I’m looking to improve my reference material before I move on. One point you made, (can’t forget the asset creators too, to make this happen) I really need to thank all the content creators! Obviously all the fantastic JR content would be at the top of the list. As I said on another post I’m using a lot of JVC desert items too. I’m also still discovering built in content that I didn’t know I had. Some days it’s just a happy accident that I find something on the DLS when I’m looking for something completely different. The list is growing and I do appreciate having access to so much amazing created content.
