No support for Joystick?

Oh come on...

The game has assignment slots for 1/8, 2/8, etc. throttle. Rig up the handle with 8 switches and use a keyboard encoder. Might be a little sketchy with a steam loco, but the whole damn game is sketchy with Steam locos. :D

I use Pinnacle Game Profiler with a Logitech Game Pad

The program will recognize most joysticks.

I modified the Railworks profile to fit the Trainz keystrokes. Works really well including steam.

EDIT: I like it better than my Raildriver for Trainz and it beats the keyboard easily

i have made my smartphone able to control trainz, this shouldnt be too hard to do the same with something like a joystick if you must do it.

Make sure you get some rudder pedals to go with the joystick, then you can fly circles around everyone in MP.

Gamepad

Hello,
In case someone helps, I created a TRS19 control scheme for GamePad in Steam.
It is not necessary to have the game purchased at Steam. Just add it to "add a game that is not Steam" down to the left.
I have not been able to schedule everything for some incompatibility between Steam and the program.
For example, the screenshot is the Y, next conductor and previous Ctrl Home and CTRL End. Next car and previous Ctrl Alt Home and Ctrl Alt End and so.
If someone decides to use it there it is. I have designed it to my personal taste. I hang it only in case it can help someone starting at the game, like me, and want to use Gamepad.
All the best.

I personally would love to see Joystick Midi and HID device support. This would allow people who do a lot of modding or wish to build their own cab to interface with the software. Trainz primary competitor does have joystick support and it is useful for setting reverser throttle breaks and operate horns and lights. I find it more relaxing in the competitors sim to drive longer routes and manage speed. I would buy a rail driver but I think for 200 I could come up with a better home brew if this had HID or Midi Support. Korg makes a midi control that has 9 pots 9 faders and 18 bottons and costs 40 dollars. It also supports 4 layers of control. I could run an entire layout simultaneously with the proper control. Another idea was using a midi control to make a sort of breadboard for switches that I could set up the sort of control panels I made when I had when I had enough room for a HO layout. Then with a breadboard matrix design I could move the switches around. Another idea would be to make a driver touch control for ipad and along with a custom hid driver allow you to control the switches and dispatch via a ipad or other tablet device. A little beyond my capabilities but wouldn't it open up possibilities?
This is one of the smartest ideas and possibilities I’ve read in recent memory. Kudo’s.
Now add a Mac into the equation and I’m sold.

Do you realise that the post you responded to is now almost 8 and a half years old?

In the meantime N3V have added the TNI (Trainz Native Interface) to TRS19 (and possibly T:ANE as well) that allows joysticks and game controllers to be used as Trainz input devices.
