No horn in cab

I just had to reinstall 04 on a new machine, with vista instead of xp, and now I find that when in driver, in the cab, the bell and horn cannot be heard when activated.

From outside views, they're audible, but pretty quiet.

I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious, but am curious if anyone else has noticed this, and can suggest a solution.

Are all your windows sounds or any other game sounds up to normal levels?

Yeah - even the engine noise is normal - maybe I'll just try installing a different horn and bell sound and see if that has any effect.
