All too often the creators of assets for simulations get taken to task over something or other and not often enough are they the recipients of even a simple "well done" or "thank you".
Well, I'd like to extend both to Jointed Rail and Aur....whoops!, I mean N3V. (Old habits die hard
).
Over the decade or so that I've been into train-sims I have operated many trains over the Tehachapi Pass route.
Initially it was in MSTS, with 3DTrainStuff's rendition of the line, then a few years later with the graphic improvements provided by 3DTrains' Scalerail.
More recently I've travelled the route in Open Rails - a graphically and dynamically enhanced MSTS, if you will - and the impressive Run 8, which arguably provides the most realistic simulation of operating a heavy freight consist anywhere outside of a full-blown professional simulator.
But during the past few days I have been hauling freight over the Pass in Trainz 2012 and I must say that I have been impressed, not only in the artistry of the route itself but also in the operation and handling of the trains(s).
The physics seem to have improved significantly. Not to the same level of dynamics as evidenced in Open Rails or Run 8 but certainly better than what I can remember with my previous iterations of Trainz.
Not only have the dynamics improved but so also have the locomotive sounds - except for the jointed rail clickety-clack, which must surely be a trademark of Trainz by now. And the volume level of the horn/bell when heard from any of the external views is still too loud - another trademark!
But when sitting in the cab of a Dash 9 with the throttle maxxed out it is a far better aural experience than it was way back when.
And the job that Jointed Rail have done with the route itself - and the well-crafted Sessions provided - make up a very enjoyable package. I've spent a really immersive few hours travelling Tehachapi in Trainz and I thank you all for the pleasure.
