I could not resubscribe but I tried every resubscribe input I could find and finally found one. The resubscribe was "accepted" but I certainly have low confidence in it until I see a publication. Just another case of many years of fiddling software with no formal plan for testing all permutations. However, I do agree that such testing is too expensive to justify and relying on customer reports is a lower cost alternative. Customer Retention is caught in the middle and a constant balance.

I maintian a small mail list (6500 subscribers). In the past we've used 4 different companies for this. Currently it's MailChimp. I can tell you that "re-subscribing" to a list does nothing. You need to use the links provided (usually) at the bottom of an email. (Where you find "un-subscribe") - People usually get dropped from a list due to "bounces". A bounce is an "email returned" msg from the subscribers host back to the service sender. A "bounce" can be caused by any number of things such as full mailbox, non-allowed auto reply msgs (I'm on vacation), etc. If the mail systems gets a number of these you will be "un-subscribed" by the system, but your address and "account" still exists. It's just flagged as a non-working address. Thus, re-subscribing does not work. The email address is still there. You need to find and fix the issue. Virtually all mail list systems work this way due to regulations.

People who subscribe to lists also need to learn how to "white list" services and take it much more seriously. You can't just subscribe to something and then "hope." You should also keep a copy of (at least) the latest email from the list so you have the service links ("unsubscribe", and "manage account") available.

Also, you should NEVER forward an email from a list to someone unless you delete the service links from the email. I can't tell you how many times someone has contacted me complaining of not getting emails only to discover that they forwarded an email and someone else hit the unsubscribe link in the forward. They think a list sent them them the email. They don't bother to even look at the "from" field.
