Newcastle Herald: Newcastle light rail should shift to corridor say critics | poll

That's Newcastle, NSW.

I believe it's time for a rather, I regret to say another sad day, with the help of just one party, (the Shooters & Fisher's Party), that another piece of well used rail line has been officially closed.

It was officially closed last October, by Section 99A, Transport Administration Act 1988, which means the rail land can now be sold off.
Oh & guess what? That rail land is on the only land from Newcastle CBD to Newcastle West that is not undermined (except in two places) & has (it HAD MORE) harbour views.

And they were quick to start getting rid of the rail infrastructure, when this officially closure bill passed the parliament. They started about a few seconds after they stopped the trains to Newcastle on 26 Dec 2014.

IT’S an image that shows what might have been, and what still could be the case if the state government was to listen to the people.

That’s what Newcastle Greens councillor Therese Doyle says about this artists’ impression of light rail running down the heavy rail corridor past the foreshore, prepared for the state government in 2013 before it changed its mind and moved most of the light rail track on to the road. . .

“It has done this by double-counting the answers to a single survey about which option development ‘opportunities’ people liked, and when 32 per cent liked one and 45 per cent said another they added the two together to get 75 per cent, even though people could vote for all four,” Cr Doyle said.
After experiencing one of their what I would call "softening us up with lunch" (that made me miss a tour of Mercedes Benz buses that I didn't find out about until later:'( ), I know what she means.

UrbanGrowth and Transport for NSW have previously stood by the results of their consultation but Cr Doyle said the anomalies and shortcomings were obvious. . . .
Cr Doyle said the government wanted to steamroll objectors but she hoped people would stand up for what was right for the city.

At the moment, the poll is running in favour of fully in the rail corridor, instead of along Hunter & Scott Sts, Newcastle.

EG: The REF document says along these two roads, it's timed for 17 minutes! It would only be 4 to 6 minutes if it's in the rail corridor!
