New to Trainz

Hi Howard,
Happy to see another Flight simmer on here...I got the urge myself a few weeks ago and I am having a wonderful time figuring out this sim. I spent most of my time in building new routes...getting to know all the components, etc. It very rewarding and the time just flies by... no pun intended:D.
Take the plunge and I am sure you will not be disappointed.Have fun.
Regards,
Moe.

Yup the DLS (Download Station) contains some 60-65000 items, from locos, wagons, cars, scenery items, routes, you name it, its up there !!

They are downloaded and installed automatically, so no worries (Aussie words there)

Depending on the Trainz version, you may have to get the latest update (SPnn)

User manuals and guides are here too, plenty of stuff for the avid reader.

So get the program and enjoy !!!

I think I found them. I have a ton of items in my download station. What does that mean. How do commit them. Sorry for being such a newbie. Also, does the downloader know which Trainz to install to. I downoloaded a TC add-on so will it go there instead of 2006? Sorry, one more thing for now, how do you launch CMP? I've been double clicking an add-on to open it up.

LouP

Hi Howard,

Yeah the "Download Station" is where it's at. You can also get to it from CMP.
I trust you know you are getting the current rev of TRS2006 as well as TC 1&2. I suspect you will get the most use initialy from TRS2006.

I am getting the correct software, right?

Thanks,

Yes Howard, you are getting the correct piece of software. You will be getting TRS2006 AND TC1 and TC2, they are bundled together, a real deal !! Bet ya cant wait LOL !!!

You only need TRS2004, or TRS2006 or one of the TC versions (Trainz Classics). Each will have different content, but that is the starting point, most of the content will come from the DLS unless there is something specific built into each version, and unobtainable elsewhere.

A little confusing, but lets get you started on one version, then you can decide yourself to go for other versions if you see an advantage doing so.

how to upload cdp files to trainz

hi i am a new user of trainz virtual railway, and i have download some scenarios with the .cdp file extension how do i upload these files onto trainz so i can play them?

Just double-click on them. If you get an "Unknown file" error, then you need to update it to 1.3 (I assume that is what you are using. That was the only one sold as TVR).

When you start the game, on the bottom of the loading screen, Trainz will list the build version.
If there is no build listed, Use these links to update to Build 277:
http://files.auran.com/trainz/ServicePacks/Trainz_Service_Pack_3_V1.1.1_to_V1.3.exe
http://files.auran.com/trainz/ServicePacks/Trainz_Content_Update_Pack.exe
Install them in that order. Trainz can now accept downloaded .cdp files! (previously they used .exes that hard coded the downloads into the software. There older downloads (Pre-1.3, they have a seperate section) are still available but most of the good stuff is included now anyway.)

If it says Build 263, Click on the link below to download the 1.3 (build 263) to 1.3 (build 277) patch.
http://files.auran.com/trainz/ServicePacks/Trainz_Content_Update_Pack.exe

And use this link to update Content DisPatcher (CDP) to the new .cdp standard. You will need this one regardless of what version you have, only the newer versions do not need this!:
http://files.auran.com/TRS2004/downloads/contentcreation/UTC_Content_Dispatcher_DLS_update.zip
It does say it is for the next version of Trainz (Slightly newer) but it does work for your version.
