New to Trainz - question about HUD display

I am admittedly a newbie to Trainz, and am only just beginning to learn the simulator as well as finding my way around the forums and resources.

I also have the original MSTS installed as well as TrainSimulator 2013. I use Raildriver which is not compatible with a Windows 7 64 bit install of MSTS and is not working properly with the new TS2013, so I took advantage of the recent sale price for Trainz12, and Raildriver works great with it. I have gone through the tutorials and feel that I will enjoy running Trainz once I get more familiar with it.

There is one thing that bothers, though, right off the bat. The drivers HUD takes up a lot of the screen in the upper right hand corner. I have searched the forums for translucent or transparent HUD, but the HUD portion of the search being only three letters long is ignored, so I got 17 pages of response.

To cut my search time short, I figured it was just best to ask the question in a new post.

Is it possible to modify the HUD to be less obtrusive (transparent or translucent background or smaller in size)?

I appreciate your response and patience with a beginner.

Thank you, that is exactly the information I was looking for. I am making an effort to read the manual, but there is a lot of information in it. Hopefully, I will be able to glean the information I need in the future and not keep asking questions that are answered in the manual.

Bring back the "Go" button!

Heya Dick! Main problem with TS12 is in CAB mode that "fisher price" controller they stole from Railworks can't be turned off with F9, so to get rid of it you have to hit F5 and get rid of the whole smash. CTRL H toggles them annoying red/green arrows over all the switches, hovering the cursor over any single switch will turn the arrows on for that one switch. Driving steam locos with raildriver, new fix has been found;

I've been using the C-41 engine spec for steamers all this time simply because I didn't know the fix was that simple. Other item, the speed readout on the raildriver LED display only works if your view is attached to a loco with a cabview that includes a working speedometer, so if you hit the plus/minus keys to move the view to different cars in the train or are driving a loco without a working speedometer, it's normal for the raildriver LED to display 000.

Is there anyway to change the brightness of the headlight on some of the locomotives. I have some, even payware locos, where the headlight is barely visible as far as lighting up the track in front of the train. Other loco, really light it up. Is it something in the config file for the loco that can be modified?

If you look at your ..TS12\UserData\settings\keyboard.txt file you'll find useful sections like this:
Code:
train_headlight_toggle          l
train_highbeam_toggle           shift l
train_ditchflash_toggle           ;
train_pantograph_toggle         KP1, KPEnd, end
train_horn                      h, KPplus
train_sand                      v, KPminus
train_bell                      b

I believe that is the toggle to turn the light on and off, which works fine. What I need to know is if the brightness on a particular locomotive's headlight can be increased to the point where you can actually see what is in front of the train and night. Some of these headlights look as if they are being produced by a 40 watt bulb.
