Hello! just got into the game and im sitting a bit barren on stuff to drive in it, i have downloaded pretty much all jnr rolling stock in the station, but i was wondering if any of your knew about some decent route? also I'm looking for something that's close to the fictional line called galaxy railway's from galaxy express 999, hope to get some good help, thanks!

Welcome Nic-sim93! I highly recommend you check out the Japan thread under the screenshots forum below. You'll find a link to the latest version of Pagroove's Icarus Shinkansen work in progress (but still great!), as well as links to Alexmaria's outstanding Japanese consists and rolling stock. Just start at today and work backwards, and you will find a treasure trove of great stuff. The guys there can also point you to other great routes. I also recommend Pagroove's Electro-Island route (on the DLS), which is a good mix of Shinkansen HST and regular trains. Morten16c has a route on the DLS called Tokyo - Model Trains v.1.0, and if you have some spare change, there are routes like Japan - Model Trainz and Chiyoda Branch Line available for sale. ENJOY, and happy Trainzing!

You can find many, many assets including those by pagroove on the Download Station, or as we call it the DLS. The DLS is accessed through the Launcher when you start TRS2019 via the Manage Content button. Note, the button is called Manage Content, but the application is called Content Manager. For other Japanese train assets, buildings, and cars other authors to look for are Hirochi and keimei whose content is also on the DLS. Just like the rest of the program there are tons, and tons of options.

Before you get into downloading a lot of content, it's best you get to know your new friend called Content Manager a bit more intimately. He/she will be with you forever as you use this program. When you open up Content Manager by clicking on Manage Content, you'll be presented with a grid of assets. There are columns for various things that can be sorted on ranging from status through upload date. By default, not all of these are shown and it's recommend that you enable them all by right-clicking on one of the columns and then clicking on each of the items not checked already. You have to unfortunately repeat this step for each one. Once enabled, you can then arrange them in any order you wish and also adjust the width of them to fit your screen.

Once that's done, we can do other things...

To find specific content on the Download Station, there are two ways to go about it.

1) Where it says Installed, you can scroll that window and change to Download station.

In the search field, not specifically marked as such in the upper right corner, you can type the asset you are looking for. This can be hit or miss, depending upon the subject and has to be quite specific.

To download, right-click on an asset and choose download.

2) To search for a specific item, such as those by a specific author, click on the small arrow on the left pointing to Filter.

The arrow will point downwards and this will open up the filter where you can then add in other search items such as On Download station by scrolling through the list.
To add to this, click on the + sign on the far right.
This will add in a small line item below. You can scroll that to author.
Type in pagroove and that will give you a lot of assets by him including his Japanese route.

When you download a route, most of the dependencies will be downloaded at the same time. This can take some time depending upon the amount of assets. There are cases, however, where things are missing and we can assist you with finding the missing parts.

There's one other thing to mention here regarding content that applies not only to the items on the DLS, but also to those installed and any content you create yourself.

Assets are assigned and ID number called a KUID, or Kewl User-ID. This is divided into 3 or 4 parts, depending up on the era the assets came from.

All asset IDs begin with KUID or KUID2, followed by an Author-ID, then by the asset-id, and version for KUID2 assets.

Example: <kuid:124863:101302>, or <kuid2:124863:101301:1> (made up numbers using my UID).

I know this is a bit daunting, but hopefully this will get you in the right direction. There's lots, and lots to do with this program including making your own routes. That aspect alone is subject of many other topics.

With all that's been said here, feel free to ask as many questions as you wish. We're not closed to asking questions and we'll all jump in and answer them the best we can.

Welcome to Trainz.

I had already explored the station a bit and kind of gets the function on how it search's, but id likely need the route name's themself, since i don't have clue on what to search for.

The Trainz Model Railroad 2017 DLC pack includes a Japanese model railroad and there's the Chiyoda Branch Line DLC pack, which is a Japanese branch line, also available.

Japanese Route "Hanwa Line" is now on sale (auran.com)

Outside of that, you can make your own as well. I recommend downloading any route and editing it in Surveyor to see how it went together. I did this back in 2003 when I first got TRS2004. After poking around and trying different things, I set out to build my own route which proved to be really easy to do. It took a number of years to perfect my skills which is still happening today, but I learned from others how they did things.

One of the best ways of learning how routes go together is to merge routes together. With TRS019, or any Trainz version for that matter, you can also merge routes together. In TRS2019 there's one exception, however, and that is you can't do this with built-in routes, but this works with everything else installed from 3rd-party websites and from the DLS.

During the merging process, you need to match up terrain heights and textures so that the routes don't look like separate routes. Because we can't raise or lower terrain directly, or rotate routes for that matter, the only way to connect them is to build in between boards and texture them so they blend in. This process,. while an art in its self, is a great way to learn your tools as you sculpt the landscape, add in water, trees, track, and other details in a method that's not much different than building a real model railroad.

You'll find that you've only scratched the surface with this program.

well, the Japanese content ive downloaded so far is rolling stock from JNR, all of the trains from the station and such.

Yes, there's a lot of rolling stock some buildings, catenary and track. Well, plenty of 42-inch track including new procedural track (Pro-Track) available along with cars and other assets. The routes themselves, I just checked, are pretty slim. Avoid the Build 3.8 because they are for the mobile platform and have issues in TRS2019. The older content may or may not work due to being, well older content.

Have you looked at the link I posted?

That route looks really nice and I may get that myself soon.

I did use that link, had money enough to buy that so i am getting it and waiting for the situation to finish up, most stuff i got were from the station.

That's great. You'll need what you downloaded to create a session and setup the AI drivers.

For AlexMaria's content, you can go here:

Home - Socimi

The content requires the content found on the DLS as a basis. His website is a bit confusing due the links, pages, and links that all interconnect, but once you figure it out, you'll find lots of locomotives and passenger trains. They are older models, but they work fine in TRS2019.

Does the forum have some chat place in the DLS? i will often be on a chat available for talking and other thing's, i have wandered around on worse sites, so this will be a walk in the park for me, on figuring out the place.

There is no live chat on the forums, but there is within TRS2019.

There is also a separate Trainz discord, but I don't have a link, as I don't use it. I was directed there once looking for an asset and found out they don't do that there. The parent asset actually said t ask on discord, so go figure. And, as John pointed out, there is a chat function in T:ANE and TRS2019, but I am not really sure how it works, as I have not used that either. It comes up at the top in driver mode, I think.
