I took a while to put this together, but I'm done with it now:

And to answer the first question that pops up, the track is on this page.

You took a while to put that together??? That would of taken me 30 seconds :hehe:

That wasn't nice. It may be true, but it wasn't nice. We all start somewhere.

Except for me; I was born this way.

Yeah I know it was...But I seen a lot better stuff from him that he made...Than that

Good start iced but the scenery is definatly lacking. I know thats the most tedious part but thats what counts!

Davis :)

Good Start? Good Start. Really? Hmm.. Seems to me that during my absence that most of the people around here lost half a brain, for their right minds.
That is nothing compared to a good start.

Lets see here, a Random Blast Furnace, in the middle of a green baseboard, with sparsely placed Palm Trees... That's a really good start i guess huh?:o

Sean,

You and your "USLW" gang has always hated me since day one. Going around making fun of people and whatever they do makes you look bad not good. Many have had it with it, and I wish you would stop it. But then again, if you do want to look like a bunch of bullies...

Now Iced, don't get hot tempered, they all have a valid point, take a look at a real line, then that, a little more texturing, maybe some hills, a bridge, wider curves, more trees and a little bit more urban feeling to the steel mill would top it off. Sometimes we have to take a little more time into our routes, yes it is time consuming, frustrating, but in the end it provides us and a lt of others a route to remember. I encourage you to try and make a route sometime, 2 baseboards wideX30 long keep looking at it and think "Hmm, does that look right, no, ah yes but this does!" or find a real route, take pictures and model it, this type of things teach good skills and make a very nice layout! I like where this layout is...I am excited what it could be...every layout has potential, this one is no different folks! I want everyone to keep an eye on Iced and his work, it will improve and you WILL be impressed!
Cheers.

Actually it stemmed more from the fact that you have basically refused to listen to what anyone was saying to you when it came to advise. That route looks pretty much the same as every other route that you have made. It isn't actually complete because you really didn't put the time into it. I am just saying. And no we don't want to look like a bunch of bullies.

(I am just assuming that the routes of yards and stuff that you were posting in the screenshot of the month thread were from other routes.)

C'mon man its a compliment. Right? I mean Ive seen better but its good to build up from here. Maybe this route should have been advertised in USA Pics before giving it a whole thread to see how people like it...

No

I believe this is work in progress and hence no need for criticism of such nature?

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

In the first post it says 'I am done with this.' I believe that means it's finished. Now I very rarely say much about other people's work, so there may be a reason why this person finds it difficult to use or learn to use, the tools and functions within Trainz. I don't know them personally so cannot comment and we all must make allowances.
However, I have had 2 8-year old boys come and make a route each in Trainz without ever having seen the program before and they did quite well.
Hence my feeling there could be a reason at the back of this we may not know about.
If the person is happy with what they have done, then so be it. We should try to help. If they won't accept help that is another matter and they alone must live with the consequences.

Iced, I would suggest that you put more terrain, textures, etc. on it. Good work though! We're all n00bs, right? I just happen to have made some C40-8W reskins.

Hey Iced,
here is what I want to see added. put up some oil tanks to the south of the Furnace, add some sidings, but up more buildings of an industrial nature, and make sure to change the ground cover under the mill to something like dirt or gravel, put in some of those smoke stacks that have fire, make it really look gritty. Some roads would be nice too, think of all factors "How do the people get to work at the steel mill? Ah a road!" Keep on improving and then take a look, lets say a month from now. Also put up more industry, warehouses and stuff, I suggest the graffiti warehouses on the DLS, that puts a more gritty feeling to it! Just keep adding, don't place buildings without a road, place them on a road! Keep your power to, GP-40, GP-15, SW1500, or anything for axle. BTW palm trees are not fitting.
Looking forward to these improvements, think of it as a challenge from a friend.
Cheers.

It needs tweaking means there is room for improvement. Here's some industrial shot as an example. Don't underestimate grass. A little of them make for a lot of realism. Look for Janvis or JVC on the dls, his vegetation is awesome. But do remember grass does not grow smack in the middle if the track if it's used often. You can get the blast furnace from here.

If you're running a route from the cab, you'll realize that you don't have to put detail way back because when driving you're mostly looking at the track. Start an area with the largest objects first and the details later, do the layout in stages. It will seem less daunting and much more enjoyable.

Good luck and have fun. :)

Nicholas.

Distance from tracks

Good point about distance from tracks.
I use half a board either side, which is about 1200 feet, but you don't need to be absolutely precise to the foot.
Put more detail near the rails and fade detail out as you get further back.

Experimentation is the name of the game. I do that a lot, try something out, if I don't like it try something else.

Blessings,

Angela

That is the road I take when modeling the FEC nowadays. If it's an industrial area, for the first few thousand feet out of the tracks I use the static objects and then use splines on my way out. Grass is maximal inwards, grass is minimal outwards. Textures are varied inwards, but are nearly constant outwards.

Nono, I think he was referring to my oversized screens, which were meant as an example and nothing else. No problem, I've deleted two and made one smaller. Shouldn't be too offensive now.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.
