I have noted that from 11.20 am ESDST Australia the New Posts have been removed no less than 4 times up to now 7:38 pm ESDST Australia . I can understand that this happens at least once in a 24 hour period but not like it has in the last 8 hours . Most Trainser's like to check the daily posts as do I .

I understood new posts to be any since your last visit.

I think there is an occasional hitch in the forum software. It happens when previously un-read threads suddenly appear in plain, not bold text. I guess that the information for what you have read is held in the cookie which could have problems. Just a guess.

I found New Posts totall unreliable. I use Today's Posts under Quick Links. It's probably unreliable too, but what you miss today, you usually catch tomorrow.

I think the problem arises if you have a considerable period of inactivity. I have found if I go wandering off on a link then after about ten minutes (I think it's about that time) on returning to the forum it has assumed I have finished and reset the new posts and I then have to look at the posting dates.

This is correct, the results of a search expire after about 5-10 minutes. It can sometimes still show you threads that it knows you haven't read fully, but they no longer appear in bold.

My technique is to look down the list at anything interesting, open new tab then scroll down the rest of the list.

Then I go through the tabs and click on "View First Unread " on all of them before going back and reading them.
