New PC .... and new Simulator?

Hi Guys

I have been having delerious fun with TRS2004 for a few years now but, like a lot of you out there, soon decided that pc (video card + memory)upgrades were necessary. Eventually however, I ended up buying a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop just over 11 months ago and while it has done a very good job with TRS2004, it has also been totally reset to "as delivered" once, is on its second hard drive, and now requires a reinstall of the Windows OS.

For all the trouble this is causing (and of course there is the thought what's next?), I am contemplating getting a high end 'gaming' desktop pc, and perhaps also getting Trainz Classic. As far as I am aware (and I am rather confused!), the only TRS2004 stuff that is not going to work will be rolling stock that was not modified for TRS2006? Everything else - buildings, tracks, signalling and custom layouts (maps) will transfer ok?

Comments?

Many Thx. Colin.

Auran have said anything that works in 06 will work in TC, and since the vast majority of TRS2004 content works in 06 without requiring any modifications, it'll also work in TC. Everything else should transfer fine from what we've been told.

As for the computer, I would definitely recommend a new PC rather than a laptop for Trainz Classics, I had a slightly older model of the Dell Inspiron and TRS2006 was completely unusable on it (CMP worked fine though, which is all I really needed it for on the laptop). You don't necessarily even have to get a high-end PC, as TRS2006 seems to work fine on fairly average machines. It depends what your budget is though, if you've got the funds then you may as well buy a nice shiny new toy that won't be outdated in three months' time (six months instead :p )

They'll be fine I'm not sure what nikos means. There's no difference between built-in routes and custom ones, both will work in TC.

from what i heard TC will not have the built in content from past versions and since most routes use some of the built in content they will not work as their creators intended unless auran places these items for download for TC users.
please someone correct me if a solution to this has already been found

Here's a solution: pack up all the built-in stuff from TRS2006 into a CDP, then unpack it into Classics?

Kind of...obvious, when you think about it...

That doesn't work. You can not create an archive or save them as .cdp as it's not allowed!

You can use TC CMP "import content" to add opened for edit 06 built-in assets from the 06 editing folder.

Cheers!

dh2k3: I was saying that in the TRS2006 CMP, you take all that built-in stuff and pack it into a CDP. Then, you use the TC CMP to import them. Voila, instant TRS2006 built-in content in TC. 'Nuff said.

This is all very interesting but remember that I am going from TRS2004 to TC ........... so the debate around CDP's and TRS2006 does not help me too much!

:)
