New Computer spec?

My computer has died and I am in the process of generating specs for a new one. I read all I could find on the forum and looked at some of the test results I found tomshardware web site. I then compromised with my wallet.
These are the results that I arrived at. I would appreciate any comments.
I looked at units at the electronics stores and could not find what I want so I am going to my local computer store and talk to him about building one for me. I can buy the components for a good price from newegg.com.

1. motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
2. processor: Intel BX80570E8400 P4 3.0 gh
3. video: Geforce gtx260 896 mb
4. 4 gb ram
5. 750w ps(overkill I think)

I'm going to buy a case that converts my old harddrive to an external hard drive and I'm going to install XP as my OS.

What do you think?

If I say I think it's wonderful will you buy me one too?

I'd probably go Intel or ASUS motherboard but that's just a personal preference.

Thanks John

This would be a very nice machine. I would recommend though that you purchase 3GB of RAM in 2 x 1GB modules and 2 x 512MB modules for two reasons:

1. Anything more than 3GB is overkill
2. Having all four RAM slots on your motherboard in use is good as it allows the motherboard to dual channel, which basically doubles the speed at which the memory can be accessed. Just make sure that if you decide to pair memory, buy the same type and speed for each pair, from the same manufacturer at the same time to make sure you can take advantage of this feature.

Hi,

1. Looks ok, I am more with John, I would go an ASUS over the Gigabyte, but I do run a Gigabyte in a system that works well.

2. Looks ok.

3. Looks ok, but I think you mean GTS260, the GTX is the 280.

4. If you are going to use a 64bit Windows XP OS then 4GB will be fine, but for the 32bit Windows XP then it will be a little overkill, about 512MB will be unavailable to the 32bit OS.

5. Not overkill for the GTS260, still have enough power for cooling.

sounds good, although i might suggest this. they are a little more expensive, but i love EVGA stuff, they are a good product and have a real good warranty. basically if you cook your graphics card or motherboard by overclocking, that is covered under warranty. just a thought. but yeah, looks nice bud

Thanks for all your responses. My final specs are

1. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R. This is an Intel board.

2. Video: EVGA Geforce GTX(not s) 260 896MB PCI Express.

3. Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Model BX80570E8400 3.0 GH.

4. 2 GB ram

5. 850 watt PS

6. Seagate 1 TB harddrive.

I ordered the components (except ram) from newegg.com for approx
$650 USD with no taxes and free shipping. My computer shop is charging me $100 USD to assemble the components, install Windows XP OS and checkout the system. I am converting my old harddrive to an external drive and can transfer data at my convenience.

I am excited about installing TRS2009 and start Trainzing again. Thanks to you and the forum for all the help you provided to help me select a new computer. I'll let you know the results when I'm up and running.

Earl
