New Aircraft

Welcome back, Ian !

Peter, thank you for your comments.
I would say, your great work, gave us the good exemple to produce some models for Trainz.
And I am sure I am far to be your skill level !

Hi again,
And thanks for replying to my post. A Seafire would be great and give the guys (and possibly girls) something to put on the decks of the carriers that are presently on the stocks here in Wales. The first one to be launched will be HMCS Magnificent as a special treat for the Canadians who give so much support to my efforts. This will be followed by HMS Ark Royal for the Brits, the second carrier of that name so in service at the tail end of the war and into the peace that followed.
After that I have a battlecruiser to sort out (part built) and then maybe the Carrier Eagle. So any warbirds of that period would be greatly appreciated by many people.
But as I said, it is still important to keep up your efforts in the directions you feel most pressing and strongly about so just keep up the good work.

If you ever get time, and I know only too well how much time creating assets can take out of your day, perhaps you could consider a Fairy Swordfish, the good old Stringbag of so many famous encounters. But time is a creators enemy and I put far too many hours in now, more than I should really. But I find the work very enjoyable and rewarding as I am sure you do.

Cheers,

Angela

Hi Ian,

I've been dormant here for quite awhile & thought it was time to 'pop in'. :)
In light of Angela's request/comment (Hi Angela!), Ian am I right in recalling a vague rememberance of a fold-wing aircraft you did (WWII vintage or just after)?.
Did you do any other aircraft carrier appropriate models Angela could look at??.

I have a question for our british friends, regarding this picture:

What is this refueling tanker near this DEA DC3? It is painted with Shell and may be BP colors. (Edinburgh airport 1956)

Back in the 70s, when I was a child my parents traveled to Puerto Rico, and at San Juan International airport we useD to switch over to catch the small plane like the picture above, so it can take us across the island to the small airport --- And let me say, those engines are super loud .... you cannot even hear yourself speak, especially if your seat is next to the engine --- For those building this airplane use a very loud soundfile for it!! LOL

my airport module screenshot (trainz 04 - I got lazy and never released it) LOL

...Yes they will use portals, but a portal has to be on the ground, to launch them up in the air the ground would have to be raised to make a hill to lift the portal up. I could find no way to use the height adjustment tag in the config for a new portal model....Ian
I have experimented with Steve Forget's unportal successfully and this can be used at any height.

Hello Noel, the only aircraft suitable for carriers have been the FA-18, Tomcat, Harrier, Osprey and Hawkeye, don't recall doing any older ones.

Thanks John, I will have a look at the portal.

Gi all,
I have had a bash myself at a Fairy Swordfish (see my thread Destroyer in Screenshots) but I am stumbling about with aircraft, not my forte really, although it has come together fairly well.
My main problem is with roundals and how to get cammo on the bodies. I have been given a link to RAF roundals but not the ones above the wings, just side on views of the planes. However, I have also got a list of roundals so maybe I can work out where which ones go.

A small variety of planes is really needed to fullfil a carriers array of types and my time is limited , making ships takes a lot out of the days. A Seafire or Sea Fury would help a lot if I can get the Stringabg looking respectable.

Cheers to all,

Angela

Hi Angela,

Nice to see that you are struggling with a Swordfish! You did not choose the easy one, for a first aircraft experience!
Anyway, take your time and make a nice model, it should be appreciated.

Regarding the roundels, you may visit this site: http://cocardes.monde.online.fr/v2html/fr/pays/royaume_uni.html

It's difficult to get a 3 view drawing on the net with upper and lower plan views. There are many sites with pictures, and sometimes you have a view from above..

You may also look at the models for Flight Simulator (FSX or earlier). DL one model and look at their skinns (camo patterns, markings, etc..).

Hope it helps.

Hi

New reskin for today, a B737-800 of Air Algérie. The livery changed in year 2012, but as far as the differences were not too big, I made the 2 versions.

Already approved by the DLS, the flying & static models should be available soon.

Many thanks Pascal,
I will look at the link later, off to the hospital shortly

Woweee! Ian, they look fantastic. Thank you so much for getting on top of this aircraft so soo.

The Carrier HMCS magnificent is up on the TPR site ready for download so anybody who wants one had better go get it before they all go....

Find them and my other warships in the UK Section in the sub division Buildings. I know, I know, they aren't buildings but choices are limited when you upload.

Blessings,

Angela

Thanks for the Air Algerie 738 Pascal .... another Heathrow regular ! I've now got everything downloaded from TS2010 onto TS12 but seem to have a lot of problems with AI arrivals and departures at the moment. Just untangled a queue of about 20 aircraft from the landing runway back up the approach path - a bit disconcerting for anyone at Hatton Cross. What is a very big improvement is the draw distances - looks like I'll get decent screenshots when finally get sorted out - I also need to suss out how to get screenshots onto here - I know I can't just attach them.

Ian - the Seafire looks very impressive - I'm sure you'd agree that a suitable aircraft to land on the carrier would be a Virgin Atlantic Airbus 340-600 or a British Airways Boeing 777-300 ? :hehe:

To think when I first bought Trainz I had no idea there were any scenery aircraft, let alone this collection of aircraft painted to order ! One day I might try and do one myself.

Thanks again

Bob

........................

Alex, the new American 737 scheme is different from the original, I quote:

"Fans of American’s bare aluminum design should know that the polished metal look was no longer an option for the newer planes, which feature composite materials that must be painted. So silver mica paint will maintain the carrier’s “silver heritage,” the company said."

It still has some of the sheen of the original polished silver. I have downloaded Rob's reskin and applied his texture to the original mesh and upped the reflection from 10 to 25%. I think this gives a better representation of the new colours. I will send the new export model to Rob to see if he wants to use it as an update.

I have been taking a break from Trainz modeling (aircraft), perhaps time to get back to it.

Ian

The new extra shiny version of the American Airlines 737 is now available on DLS.

The 767 is getting close. Just a few niggles to get past.

Hi Vulcan,
When you finish the Seafire would it be possible to create a 2004 version as well? I upload regularly to the TPR site for those who use older versions of Trainz for one reason or another, lack of funds for a better PC etc, so it would be nice to have that beaut for them as well, I always try to spread the good work of Trainz as far as I can.

Cheers,

Angela

Pacific Blue - Boeing 737-8FE

This one will no doubt interest the likes of Gordon & his fellow Kiwis. This is the last of my re-paints for Virgin Australia. The is the Pacific Blue variant that operates mainly from New Zealand soil.

This one has been a difficult one & I set it aside for quite some time. It took some frustrations with the American 767 I'm working on to bring me back to it & finish it off. It is available on DLS.

On a different subject. There are a number of Boeing 767 aircraft currently available on DLS. Eight of these have a shadow issue only when used in a Trainz 12 session. If you study the screen shot below, you can see that the 8 aircraft in the foreground have a rectangular shadow.

B767ShaddowsBad_zps6ef8d125.jpg

My Air Canada (Green) also had this problem but I have repaired it by copying the shadow.im file from one of the aircraft that are OK & overwriting the equivalent file in my asset. It is now available on DLS.
Ideally if those owners of the other 8 aircraft could fix their assets, it would benefit all of us.

For those of you who can't wait for the updates & don't do much asset modification/creation work, I'll try to simplify it enough so you can fix the shadow yourself.
I use Content Manager (C.M.) to open the asset for editing (C.M. for TR2010 it looks like this... Right click over the asset ->Edit->Open for edit). If you open the one that has the shadow problem & one that doesn't it will be a good start. I like to use a Vulcan original if possible for these kinds of things. In this case there are a few to choose from. (For those Mac users, I can't help you after this.) You will need to locate the directory on your computer where the edited assets are modified. C.M. should lead you there (C.M. for TR2010... right click->Edit->Edit in Explorer). Consult your user guide . All you will need to do is copy the "Shadow.im" flie from the good 767 (in directory .....<asset name>\shadow\) to the same directory in the problem asset.
Commit the asset in Content Manager & you're good to go. This is a quick fix only & isn't the full method for updating assets for uplaod to DLS.

No doubt Ian will correct me if I've left something out. He is the owner of the models after all & knows how they tick.

Here endith the lesson.....

Angelah,

The Seafire is finished, just a few checks to do. My aircraft are traincars, drivable models and are now build 2.9 for acceptance to the DLS. They all use scripts, the Seafire is a startup model and is set up for carrier operations using a number of keys and trigger settings to function. I now only have TS12 installed and the script relies on some functions that were only introduced in build 2.7, so none of them will function in TRS2004.

I do sometimes make static model for the same aircraft, and these could be made TRS2004, but I have found it too hard to support models for different Trainz versions. For any reskins I do like that they are made available through the DLS. This supports Auran (N3V) and makes the aircraft easy to find.

Rob is correct, some older models have shadow problems in TS12. As you cannot animate shadows to follow aircraft animations I often use an invisible shadow. One solution, find such a model and copy the shadow file across to the problem model, the shadow.im file will be 1.32kb in size.

This is the Airbus 340-313 model for Cathay Pacific, still a long way to go:
