New Aircraft

That was amazing Trent, thanks for the link. I liked the speed of the vehicles running around the airport in between all the planes, they looked like mice running around a kitchen floor :hehe:. An incredible amount of work has gone into it. I liked the way the planes are loaded for landing which shows how much thought has gone into it.

P.S. thanks for the comments on my terminal, still working on the runways so a long way to go but it's enjoyable.

If you watch the whole video set from start to finish it wxplains a lot of interesting things i started watching 6 months ago and look forward to a new one every few weeks.

Great Job on all of your airports.

Hi everyone,

I am curious about the markings on Runways (apart from the center line :hehe:) and wonder if anyone may know the answers. The image from GE below is of Heathrow International Airport and I picked it as it was the clearest :)

runwaymarkings.jpg

I found out the arrows at the end of the runway generally indicate an area which basically unsafe to land on and the "zebra" indicate the start of the landing area for a plane. I also found out there is a set distance between the larger white "dash" lines. However, I have not found out what the lines that look like this "___ --- ___" (1) mean. Nor have I found out what the other lines (2) mean and on different runways there may be less or more of them at each end of the runway.

While I can understand that there would be differences between they types of aircraft, do any of the lines/markings on the runway indicate where a plane takes off from?

Many Thanks for any help.

Markings vary between us and europe the standard us marking is

-threshhold usually 4-8 lines on each half of the runway just before the numbers
-next comes the precision marking starting with 3 lines on each side
-the large fat line on each side is next (touchdown line)
-depending on runway length next comes for longer runways 2 lines on each side twice and then 2 sets of single lines

for europe
the touchdown is replaced by the three segment line and i believe that is the major difference

Precision markings may change for length and threshhold changes for width

I am a large plane fanatic and play fsx a few hours everyday online
If u have any questions feel free to ask or send me pm.

Good Luck
Josh

Thanks Josh and Hyderpotter,

So in Hyderpotter's image a plane lands between those lines shown as "touch down zone" and the "fixed distance marks" are a guide for the pilots, possibly the center of the "touch down zone".

Many thanks for your help,

Craig

Yes or the "fixed distance marks" could be for the ILS. In some plane, As the plane landing you might not be able to see the touch down zone or the fixed distance marks.

Thanks for that, the videos where good as well. Apart from all the button/switch pressing/changing and reading the map, it's a wonder the pilots had time to look where they were going :hehe:

I thought of that too Hyderpotter but I have since found using the modular pieces a lot better to use, you then have more flexibility.

Hi Craig,

You have mail,

Hi Everyone,

"snip"

If it is possible, then would someone please be willing to create them for us? Others in this thread may have similar ideas that could be created in a similar "generic" way.

Example pic below,

I have made a set of 6 "renamable signs" in white, black and yellow, also in 2 sizes 0.5m and 1m text. Can be changed in the config.

The renamable text is mounted on a "box" with the text placed 1m above (see orange boxes with "name" at right), after placing the box
in the place you want the text, name it and lower the box 1m and the text remains visable.

Will upload to DLS.

Cheers,

Bill.

Hello all,
Been busy finishing the Jetstar A320,

Just need to finish work on the undercarriage.
Long weekend here in New Zealand (Labour Day) So should have this up on the DLS by Saturday or Sunday.

Bill, Can I say thank you for another one of your wonderful works for our airports!:D

WOW Bill many thanks for these, they are great. If a user wants to they can also change the size and colour of the text in the Config file but for the most part there now is no need for this.

Many thanks again for you help, it's much appreciated.

Ops, I forgot to say nzms the Jetstar looks great. How did you work out the animation for the automatic breakdowns :hehe:

Good one Bill,

For the runway numbers, you can open my models and find the main texture file and the white letters 10 or 12 - paint them out with some of the bitumen texture and resave the tga file and commit the runway model. The runway will now have no numbers showing.

For one of Bill's assets, set the colour white and the required font size in the config file. Now in Surveyor you can place the number asset at the end of the runway and set a different number for each runway you have placed.

Be aware that once you have changed the font sizes in the config, this will apply to all of placed assets. Saves me redoing the runways with variable numbers. :)

For the Y junctions being made to fit the airport terminal track spacing as suggested above, the radius was chosen to be as small as possible to handle the A380 without derailing.

Hyderpotter, if you look at the screenshot below and others of mine and other people's screenshots all/most of the parts are made from various modular pieces that Ian or Bill have made for us.

modularairport.jpg

Ian made the yellow lines in the above which are actually tracks for planes to taxi on, plus the gray base thingo (in 2 widths) . Bill made some parts as well, the round type terminal thing and other terminal parts including hangers.

If you look up Ian (60238) and Bill (97008) you will find all the parts you need to start constructing your own Airport to your design.

Another person who has made some Airport items is Minitrix (152080) that you may find handy.

Any specific questions, just ask.
