Hey guys,

I have a laptop with the following specifications:

Mainboard : LENOVO 7762B35
Chipset : Intel GM965
Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile L7500 @ 1600 MHz
Physical Memory : 2048 MB
Video Card : Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
Hard Disk : HITACHI (80 GB)
Hard Disk : WD (120 GB)
Monitor Type : HV121X03-100 - 12 inches
Network Card : 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection
Network Card : Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
Network Card : 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection
Operating System : Windows 7 Professional Professional 6.01.7600 (x64)
DirectX : Version 10.00

I realise that it's not built for gaming but I decided to try running trs 2010 anyway. It is of course very laggy. I was wondering if there was any way apart from replacing physical components that I could help to reduce the lag?

Thank you:)

You could try swapping betwen OpenGL and DirectX and see if that makes a difference. It does for some.

In driver, Main menu, options, video settings and move the sliders over to the left. The most important one is probably reduce the distance setting to 1k rather than 5k.

The next thing is to build your own routes being selective in what you put on them. The more scenery objects you have the worst it gets. There is a way to pick out the most demanding item on a layout in Surveyor and often removing one or two resource hogs can make a big difference.

If you use cab mode and look forward then the train doesn't need to be rendered. Use simple locos preferably not steam and keep the wagons or coaches down to a single type. Don't try and run more than one train at time.

Hope that helps.

Replace the default tracks and SpeedTree's, I have it running on a similar system to your's having done this. Uncheck the shadows and anti-alias options and add in plenty of fog.

Does the Robe River layout come with TS2010? If so, how well does it work? It may be the smoothest of any built in layouts.
Try all "sliders" full left, then expiriment.
2G is plenty of RAM with XP.
Your main problem is probably the "video card".
