need advice moving content from one partition to another

I've run out of disk space, and need to move trainz to another disk partition. Can someone advise on the easiest process?

My initial thought is to uninstall trainz, then reinstall on the new partition. I would then simply move all content from the old "local" folder to the newly created one. Will this work, or is it more complex than that? I worry that CMP is fragile, and I fear confusing/breaking it.

As a last resort, I could resize the partitions; but I'd rather not.

It may depend on the version of Trainz you have. With TRS04 one can copy several instances of it to different partitions, they all will work on these. With later versions, these might work (I never had to copy one of these to a different partition or drive, so I do not know) but if these require fixing after copying, one can do this in the registry by changing the partition or drive info there. WARNING! You need to know what you are doing in the registry or you might do more damage than good. Backing up the registry (exporting it) is the 1st step to start there.

Or you migh find it easier to change the partition/drive letter from the one Trainz is on now to the one you copy/move it to. Depending of what else is on the erstwhile partition/drive, you will break all their links on it. But as said, all the above might not be necessary or needed if all works like it does for TRS04. Just copy the data across first and see if the copy starts up OK after you did the copying to the other partition.
