Thanks tdstead!
Gertrude pulls a train out of Gelerts Farm on a fairly murky Welsh morning. The newly restored Russell can be seen to the left undergoing steaming tests.

Nathanmallard.

I thought my Chilean railway stuff would never see the light. Thank you. On the Western Side of the Andean slopes water was very scarce, mainly produced by distilling sea water. The FCCT ran from sea level on track where the steepest gradient was 4.1% to a height of 1295 metres.

South America is an untouched source of interesting railways, especially on the Western side of the continent. The Kitson-Meyer type loco was a particular favourite and there were some monsters. Typically a 2-8-8-2 used by the Ferrocarriles Nationales, 53 foot long on 36"track.

I have been looking for something to build, perhaps that would be worth tackling. Someone has modified the smoke, I don't remember it being as dense as that.

Thankyou for your kind comments. It is indeed a very interesting system, sadly ignored by most railway enthusiasts. I assume the Kitson-Meyer you refer to is this one:

It is indeed very impressive, it would look excellent in Trainz but that valve gear would be a pain to model! I wonder how many Kitson-Meyers they are operating in the world, there is one here in the UK but unrestored, sadly. The route has been uploaded on to the DLS with the title "Railroading in the Pampas". It is one board only, not really a complicated route, but still quite fun.
Re the smoke, I think the loco has been updated at somepoint for TS2010 compatibility, that might be the reason it has been changed.

That locomotive is amazing!

I have a basic drawing(I think it's a CAD export) of that Kitson-Meyer if anyone is interested, I've been meaning to get to it but haven't done so, so if anyone is interested just send me something.
