N.Z. Johnsonville Line

This view looking North towards the direction of Tawa. This viaduct has been gone since it was demolished by the Army as a bombing exercise way back in 1951. The rails were uplifted in 1937 when this section of line was closed in that same year. It has been quite a task researching as very few records were kept on this line, the main feature being this viaduct. Fortunately with the sim, we do have the knowledge, we do have the technology, we can re-build these things! I present to you the $6 million dollar viaduct!
Cheers, Trev. :D

By the way...

go to the hutt valley signals page; scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the signal history menu. There you will find all the different track arrangements for each station throughout the years.

Nice to see some NZ stuff being done, I started the line north of whangarei [present day, 3ft6] but lost it all when my computer died. Will probably start it again some day...

Your friendly neighborhood trainzer from Napier:hehe:

WOW!

ANOTHER great Wellington route. I CANNOT wait to see this finished. :) I wish I could help get photos for this, but yeah, I cannot be bothered. =P

This view looking North towards Tawa. If you look carefully, you can see the line out from the station as it curves to the North. This is the old section of line going up to the Belmont viaduct. This section of line was removed in 1937. The Johnsonville yard is now completely gone, being taken over by the shopping centre. All that remains of the Johnsonville rail is a single sided station and one main line.

Hi Fender

Thats an excellent looking layout that you're working on there.
Great to see New Zealand layouts in progress.

best of success with it
Michael

Thankyou Michael. I am a fan of our N.Z. railways with its tight and tortuous layouts and the bush clad scenery of which this Johnsonville route is a prime example. My serious vegetation planting has yet to begin, depending on spare fps of course!
Cheers, Trev. :D

I am pleased to annouce this route is now complete and available for download from www.trainzone. Please see my thread in "Freeware announcements". Note, you must be logged on to access "Freeware announcements".
Cheers, Trev. :)

You've done a very acceptable and representative job of the ol' railway station; congratulations.

It might behove you to get in touch with David Drake and send him some photos of the old parliament buildings and the old wooden government buildings. If you catch him in a good mood he might come up with the goods! :hehe:

I still have my official notice of being laid off when the Silver Star dispute broke out in the late 70s. Never got to ride on it though. Incidentally standard loco operating procedure was to put double units back to back. When we were on PPA duties in the depot (Preparing and Putting Away) we hated it when locos came in facing the same way as if they were both going out later as singles we had to turn both of the darn things!

I'm looking forward to your Belmont viaduct. See if we can find some Baldwins and run the Wellington and Manawatu Railway!

Cheers

Nix

G'day Nix,

After 20 years in NZ (Tauranga) I returned 'home' to Australia (Coffs Harbour) on 16th Jan 2008. On 27th Oct 1987 we'd moved to NZ from the NT (Darwin/Alice Springs/Darwin).
My old boss at NT Public Works Darwin was Tony Bradbury.
Tony & wife Julia had come over from Wellington NZ about 1981 & think.
Tony was a senior/chief Draughtsman at Wellington Railway-something?.
Did you ever meet him?. A Pommy guy.

I have a cousin at Korokoro (Lower Hutt Valley), with a magnificent 180 degree view of the harbour, stretching from Bass Straight, across to the airport & 'round to the city.

This route is very good. You are doing a great job of portraying the feeling of the place, & era. Great work!

Hi Noel,

I doubt very much that you can see Bass Strait from Korokoro.
Maybe Cook strait?

Cheers,
