Hello train fans,

I want to start my first real model train layout. The only problem is i have wherry little space for the layout. The maximum dimensions can be around 1 meter to 50 cm wide.
I just want to make a dual track oval with a little yard in it. What scale can i use best to get the maximum out of it ?
Please give me some advice with your experience on N scale and Z scale.
Excuse if this is off topic but i just want some good advice.

Greetings,

Train Ape.

Hello
In N Gauge you might just get away with an oval of track on a 500mm wide base board. In British N gauge (1:148 scale) we reckon 225mm to be the absolute minimum radius for curves (depending of type of rolling stock being run).

You might be better off trying a small branch terminus to fiddle yard type plan. There is a very nice exhibition layout that is 1000mm by 400mm maximum. It uses Peco set track points, tank locos and steam era two axle wagons.

Do be aware that dust and dirt can be a major problem. I have n gauge but if I want to run a model train these days I usually run a Lego one strangely enough.
