my 1st map, that im planning to give all of you lot  its just the start, showing the 1st (un-named) station and a yard, as well as a sports centre. its a fictional route, but is ment to be based on east coast mainline, with GNER running on it, the yard is one of GNER's where they keep the somce of the class 91's (room for 10 sets).

all tips will be good, its not my 1st map, but the 1st im taking my time on and going to show off to you:Y:

Well, for a first route, your track is amazingly straight and well-layed. Good job. With some textures, that will look amazing

some of it is using the straight 'ready made track' most is just the 'uk 4 track' and using the grid to keep it in line, the corners are just setting two '4 track' at an even distance apart and at a 90o angle of each other. (so 30 grids across and 30 grids up) then getting the same type of track in the single version and conetcing them using the single track, it gives you (in my opinion) a nice natural curve (some times looks odd on the map mode)

how do other people make their corners?

Nice shots of some painstaking work there....you certainly have potential!

I usually insert a level crossing down the line to connect all the tracks to, and by moving that around, I am able to manipulate the curves easily.

that sounds like a plan, i like putting the non-moving cars on there and re-acting the 'top gear crossing safety video' :hehe:

on the note of cars, can anyone link me to a place that wil tell me step by step how to put the cars that iv downloaded onto the roads and have them driving on the road (i hope not like me, the policeman told me "you HAVE to haev a licence to drive this bus" much to the passengers relief)

Hi,

Only one little thing, try not to use so many short section of track, in the first screenshot there are alot of 'spline points' (where track joins) in the curve. This can lower frame rates on some systems, don't get me wrong, I can see why you have to make a nice curve.

Search the DLS (DownLoad Station) for curve and in the Category select Buildings / Structures, you'll find some very useful guides for making curves.

Hope this helps... :)

the curve is one bit of single track, the i think they are called spline and the over head wires. if you like ill make a small slection of screenshots to show you how i make my curves. with out the screenshot it is

1: lay a section of track, use a 2 or more section as it doesnt work other wise.
2: lay a section of track at a even X and Y distance, use the grids as a guid e.g. 30 grids along then 30 grids up at a right-angel.
3: use a single track spline to join the two sections of track, make sure that the right track connects to the roght bits on the other section, e.g. the left track connects to the left track and the middle left to the middle left etc etc.
4: enjoy your natural curve, as told by me :D

ok iv improved the station and yard area, by adding some more stuff, enjoy!!

Wfootballpitchstationshopsandpolice.jpg

the sports centre has a nice outdoor area to play the sport of gods

TAcentrepolicestation.jpg

TA centre and the polce station, keeping tranz safe for another say. the horried MP's on the look out!!!

SWtennisecoutsandflats.jpg

tennis courts, where we hope to see a future wimbledon champion.

SEnicehousesoverlookedbytheflats.jpg

nice victorian homes, but the local council has built flats behind and around them.

NWstation.jpg

the upgraded station, flying the union flag, the car park busy, and he buses running a bit late (whats new?)

NEbackofshops.jpg

the loading dock behind the shops, as we can see the 'evil' Tesco has taken its place and letting the whole area know about it.

i have been spending the day working on the country side adding texture trees and cows :D (and sheep 'greg leave that sheep alone'), as well as a little village with a small station. ill put pictues of that area on here tomorrow. anyone got any ideas for my town name?? (the one in these pics)

3 things, LOOKS AWESOME

2) use the track straighten tool in the advanced options TAB on the track TAB for more detail and it will look even better.

3) where did you get the raod tunnel? :)

yes, its in the wrong country, lol

are you sure that is a first route? looks more like a veteran attempt

iv played around with other maps, but never wanted to let them out in the public, so they all got deleted before i started again, but after looking through the "UK Screenshots (Hi Res Version)" thread and looked and got a good idea of how to texture and set it out, the bit i find hardest is the natural landscape, which takes a while, and im not sure how good it looks, ill show you screens of the country side (with the rooling rolling hills) and see what you guys think.

im still not sure if it should be a huge map that i spend months and months on, or put the map out and make another one that adds onto it. so you download that, then i make another one and you put a base between the two ready made maps (as the lines might not be a perfect link) and keep adding as they come out, (each could come out and people can set them up how they like so eash map will have the same bases but eash person will have them in a differnt order so all will be different)

what do you guys think??
A: large map
B: many small-med maps that all link up to each other

p.s any ideas of what to add to the mainline? like what you would see on the east coast mainline, as i have only ever travlled stevenage to kings cross, so i dont see much of the ECML. remember this is a fictional line so it doesnt have to be true to the line, pics will help too

as a well received route builder....make it whatever you want. Just let whatever ideas get transfered onto it.

and in the end, Im sure you like what you have.

personnaly I would like to have seperate parts, so you can have seperate downloads and it wont take as long. but seriously d00d, your work is great, I will bust out some of my screens and show you in a PM if you want.

P.S. please please show us the country side :D

i will, it has a small village in the works and a farm (wanring some of its crops filelds are a bit of a drive away lol) with cows and sheep (shall i have a farmer doing only what the welsh farmers do and see if nay notices it?) the track runs at the bottom of a shallow vally.

i am going to do the seperate parts idea, so ill jsut finish adding the final texture and stuff etc etc and put it on DLS so with in a week (finishing it + testing + getting it on DLS). if you cant wait then you can make it a add some bases to make a loop (thats how i test it) i hope that our friends over the pond wont mind downloading a british map with one rule british loco's only (class 91 and the class 43, GNER) ill give you links to the locos i use on it and running on the left (ok only use this rule if your going to use the map to post screen shots)

oh yer ill have the country side on tomorrow. and im alread planning my next section im thinking a with a terminus (KUID: 146092:100092) a very good terminus unless you have a better one?

p.s. get those screen shots coming in a PM mate :Y:
