Must Re-Download Trainz How Do I Save My Stuff

I have to re-install trainz 2010 EE (I have a disc set for it) which is simple enough. The problem is I have lots of routes and things I downloaded and things I redskinned. How do I keep all of this but just re-install trainz? I had to set my computer to a restore date to fix something and trainz got all screwed up. The object config windows won't work and not too much is working properly. I want to find out of a way to save all of my things that I redskinned, downloaded, and routes/sessions I made. If anyone can help please reply.

There are 2 files to back-up, and install where you delete the factory disc files re-installation ... someone will tell you what these 2 files are ... soon

In the re-installation you delete these 2 files, and transplant the saved 2 files in their blank space (as I am not an expert knowing the names of these 2 files, someone else will tell you). Do not delete you present installation before copying and saving these 2 files.

It's not 2 files, it's 2 folders - in your Trainz install in Windows Explorer open the User Data folder and copy the Local and Original folders to another location. When you have reinstalled Trainz (and patched), just move them back.

Copy your "Local" and "Original" folders to some other location like "PC Documents"

Uninstall Trainz

Re-install the factory disc version of Trainz

In the new re-instalation, delete the factory disc "Local" and "Original" folders

Now drag and drop the saved "Local" and "Original" folders that are in your documents, back into the empty spaces in the "User Data" folder

An important bit of information though. Once you've put the folders back, you will need to do a database repair in Content Manager.

Just trying to figure out how to get my computer to read the disk. I forgot my computer doesn't always read the disk right as I put it in. Playing around with the explorer menu to try to get it to open the disk.

Can't figure out how to get my computer to run the disc. And I'm afraid of screwing something up and erasing everything from the disc, as I have a bad history with crap like that.

A window popped up saying "Do you want to: 'Save Edit and Delete files on the disc anytime' or 'Burn to DVD'" and I sure ain't doing either of them cause it'l wipe everything from the disc if I do. I'm completely lost on how to get it to open properly without deleting everything on it. I put it in another computer just to see if it still worked and it did. Just not on THIS computer where I need to re-install it.

Can't use the disc through that menu without wiping its memory. Meaning I have to find out how to get it to open right when I insert it so it works like on our other computer.

This is a bit confusing maybe because I haven't had my coffee yet.

So you are saying that you can't always read the DVD you originally installed Trainz from?

This could mean that your DVD-ROM drive is flaky or needs a cleaning, or the disk its self is marginal. To be sure see if the disc can be read on another computer. If the disc is okay then it's the drive which can be replaced for about $25. If you can't read the disc anywhere, contact N3V.

Disc is fine. Another computer is fine reading it, and this computer can also read discs. The problem is that this computer isn't set up to load the window on the screen after you put it in. You know that on most computers if you insert something like a flashdrive or disc it'll pop right up after reading it. My computer isn't setup to do that, and I gotta figure out how to set it up that way. It's running windows 7.

Okay... Open up My Computer (Computer in Windows 7).

Open up the DVD drive.

Right-click on Setup.exe and choose Run as Administrator.

Confirm you DO want to do this at the yellow box, and let it run.

Hope this helps.

I can't do that.... When I try to open the DVD it says "Burn to disc by either using as a UBS Drive or permanently burning things onto disc." I don't want to do that cause I don't want to wipe the stuff off of it. I need to know how to change the computer settings to automatically pull up a window for discs and USB storage flashdrives like most computers have.

Go into "Control Panel" and look under "Autoplay". This provides choices for what to do with all types of removable media. Just compare this computer's settings with those on the computer that works in the way you want it to.

Hope this is what you were asking for.
