I thought I should get this post in early - before all the "knockers" get out of bed.
The Murchison 2 digital file, downloaded, installed and ran perfectly.
I downloaded the digital file (842MB at 5+ hrs - so I went out rather than hang around watching a progress bar - it was finished when I got back) and then ran the install. I opted to have the package integrated with my existing Trainz 2009 rather than install it as a stand-alone.
When the install finished it started Trainz 2009 and did a full database rebuild - this time I did watch the progress bar (not 5 hrs this time - it just seemed like it).
Database rebuild finished and programs started.
I went into Driver and noticed that there are 2 Murchison 2 routes installed - Murchison 2 Hi detail and Murchison 2 Standard. Both come with 29 sessions. The first 5 sessions in both routes are EXPLORE by helicopter, EXPLORE by locomotive, EXPLORE by riverboat, EXPLORE by ship, EXPLORE the logging line - but no EXPLORE by foot
Feeling adventurous, I selected the Hi detail route and chose the helicopter tour in DCC mode. The screen opens at the helipad at the local airstrip with a set of environmental and train controls as a HTML device on the top left of the screen which I minimised. I opened the throttle and the chopper took off on the start of a 160km (2.5 hr) tour of Murchison County - I'm still on board as I write this. The pilot should have his licence revoked - flying under bridges has got to be against CAA regulations!
From what I can see just from the chopper ride alone the work that has gone into this layout is impressive. The rock textures on the cliff faces, the ground textures, the trees (a sore point with many over these past few months) were great. The gullies, ravines, deep river valleys, waterfalls, river rapids, spectacular bridges all made me wish I took my camera with me. The landforms, including the islands off the coast, and scenery are all very well done with some unexpected surprises (look out for the shipwrecked freighter jammed between the rocks).
The road traffic was all 1930's vehicles - which made the Super Puma AS322 helicopter and the bulk ore carrier in the harbour seem a bit out of place.
I can see that I am going to have hundred's of hours exploring this creation.
My system is a Dell XPS 420 Quad core with 4GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT running Vista 32bit Home Premium. Trainz 2009 build (now) 40762. I do not work for Auran.
