Murchison 2 - well done Auran.

I thought I should get this post in early - before all the "knockers" get out of bed.

The Murchison 2 digital file, downloaded, installed and ran perfectly.

I downloaded the digital file (842MB at 5+ hrs - so I went out rather than hang around watching a progress bar - it was finished when I got back) and then ran the install. I opted to have the package integrated with my existing Trainz 2009 rather than install it as a stand-alone.

When the install finished it started Trainz 2009 and did a full database rebuild - this time I did watch the progress bar (not 5 hrs this time - it just seemed like it).

Database rebuild finished and programs started.

I went into Driver and noticed that there are 2 Murchison 2 routes installed - Murchison 2 Hi detail and Murchison 2 Standard. Both come with 29 sessions. The first 5 sessions in both routes are EXPLORE by helicopter, EXPLORE by locomotive, EXPLORE by riverboat, EXPLORE by ship, EXPLORE the logging line - but no EXPLORE by foot :D

Feeling adventurous, I selected the Hi detail route and chose the helicopter tour in DCC mode. The screen opens at the helipad at the local airstrip with a set of environmental and train controls as a HTML device on the top left of the screen which I minimised. I opened the throttle and the chopper took off on the start of a 160km (2.5 hr) tour of Murchison County - I'm still on board as I write this. The pilot should have his licence revoked - flying under bridges has got to be against CAA regulations!

From what I can see just from the chopper ride alone the work that has gone into this layout is impressive. The rock textures on the cliff faces, the ground textures, the trees (a sore point with many over these past few months) were great. The gullies, ravines, deep river valleys, waterfalls, river rapids, spectacular bridges all made me wish I took my camera with me. The landforms, including the islands off the coast, and scenery are all very well done with some unexpected surprises (look out for the shipwrecked freighter jammed between the rocks).

The road traffic was all 1930's vehicles - which made the Super Puma AS322 helicopter and the bulk ore carrier in the harbour seem a bit out of place.

I can see that I am going to have hundred's of hours exploring this creation.

My system is a Dell XPS 420 Quad core with 4GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT running Vista 32bit Home Premium. Trainz 2009 build (now) 40762. I do not work for Auran.

Indeed, I agree with everything said by pware.

All in all, this is the best money I have spent on trainz since I bought my first copy several years ago. I also am sure I will spend MANY hours exploring this route.

... And to add to that, all the new beautiful steamers. Thats always a plus

regards,
Dave

Yes, excellent work done by Auran and Sirgibby.

Question, is praising Auran for doing good work permitted on the Forums?:)

Have fun,:)

WARNING!!

A warning to all who might want to get Murchison 2.
If you are creating a layout/route, DON'T get Murchison 2!
If you may ever create a layout/route, DON'T get Murchison 2!

Once you get into M 2 you will not find the time to work on your own creation for a long time and when you do get the time, you will no longer be interested in your layout/route.
Or worse: you will be completly spoiled by M 2 and realize that you could never create anything near as good as M 2 and so lose all interest in creating your own.:(

Ignore me if you wish but you have been warned.

Add one more happy Trainzer here. The package DLed, installed and did everything perfectly, first try. The scenery is breath-taking. The layout of all the track for all the vehicles is awesome. And I too, anticipate many hours exploring before I'm even ready to go to work on this route.

I dabbled in a couple of the MLOG sessions, and started some trains moving down the track. I'm impressed with the way SirGibby spelled out the session objectives in the "Info" screen, giving directions for both manual driving as well as "Drive via trackmark" options. And having that info available to print out from the "Docs" file is a real plus, along with the printable maps, etc.

I'm very happy with this purchase, and I gotta say, TS2009 is shaping up pretty nicely.

I just bought and downloaded tonight. I am very happy with the purchase. So far I've taken a short helicopter tour and am very impressed with the layout.

Download went quick on a 3 megabit line. Install was smooth and lengthy. The database rebuild took about half an hour. I loaded the high detail version and it ran fairly smooth on my system. Just a bit of stuttering now n then.

Just a couple more things.

The fastest I've seen the helicopter fly is 171 MPH.

Flying during a thunderstorm and a very real looking lightning bolt struck near the helicopter all the way to the ground.

In places along the rivers there is moss or weeds growing under the water.

There are large birds flying around in the higher altitudes. Buzzards I suspect.

The immersion is incredible in this simulation.

Hello all,
this is my first time posting to the forum although I've been reading it quite often since I bought Trainz 2006 in 2005.
I write now to say that I have purchased the disc version of Murchison2 and I am very, very pleased with it. Thank you to SirGibby and Auran. I have completed two of the sessions and had a “look around” as well. I preferred to do a session first so as to have the landscape and other features
reveal themselves as I travelled. I was astounded by the detail and the very realistic character of the bush and mountains in particular. Seeing the railcar going along the side of a gorge – which to me seemed like a place I knew – gave me bouts of nostalgia ! Everything made me think, “I remember it being just like that 50 years ago !” (By the way, I live about 100 miles down the road from SirGibby.) It is a brilliant representation of New Zealand “some years ago” - and of the natural features even nowadays, if one is in the right place.
I cannot even contemplate the amount of work involved; also everything works ! (tricky getting over that high pass after Lucy's Gully though !)

I have the standalone version and I am running it in the Hi-detail mode.

Thank you, and I will now go back for some more !

Superfudd.Guess what. Your'e right. My layout looks childish up against M2 so Iv'e already done a scenario with 8 vehicles and the heli and steamer. It,s lots of fun jumping from train to train to see if I can cacth either as they go by. Took a ride on the comet in camera mode. Wow. Sirgibby, you have ruined us.
