Mt Washington Cog Railway locomotive for sale

Well at least it is better to have 5 steam engines operate than none at all,I'm not saying diesel locomotives are not the best source of power but I think people would prefer to ride on a steam train, but either one is good!

This is outragous, I knew this would happen when they reveiled those ugly diesels last year.
Does anyone car about heritage anymore?

Hmm,your not the only one that is shocked at this, those diesels do look strange and I think steam engines look better and sure they produce alot of smoke but I am probably sure the railfans are going to be demanding their money back because of diesels and yes,Heritage is important and that is where steam locomotives belong not diesels and I should take that as a insult because I have a future steam locomotive project that is still in the research phase and if anyone thinks that diesels should be operating on a railroad that I'm about to start one day, foreget it!

only 27 minutes left to bid!! Get your bids in now....oh wait, no one bided, what a surprise....:o

Perhaps because Ebay is not the place to sell historic steam locomotives.

Sounds like you're talking about the 5AT.

Magicmaker, with all due respect,no I was not talking about the 5AT,I was reffering to the diesels that Illinois central pointed out which I agree that the diesel locos are pretty ugly unlike the steam engines that still run this line and it should have stayed that way before those diesels came!

Everything does wear out eventually...boilers can explode...or rack and pinion drive and emergency braking system can catastophicly fail, killing all those onboard...out with the old...in with the new...nothing lasts forever...the cost of rebuild might outweigh the cost of replacement locomotive...no matter what the sentmentic value is of the old worn out locomotive. Liability Insurance in case of passenger accidental deaths due to use of delapidated antiquated equipment might have a hand in the decisions also. You can't save each and every piece of rusting hulk of scrap antiquities. Let it go...or host a fundraiser.

5AT is a project that I became interested in and somewhat indirectly linked to about a year ago. It's hard to explain, but it's basically the first modern steam engine designed in years. As designed, they can easily burn bio fuels, making them very fuel efficient and great on the environment. This is an image of the line drawing design.

Here's more info. http://www.5at.co.uk/

Excellent but could this mean the return of steam locomotives on railways or not?

Yes, it could. That's entirely what the 5AT is designed for. It's expected, when built, to start with tourist type runs, but if you look at the data it can hold its own with modern locomotives.

I looked at the statistics and I am impressed by what I am looking at as far as this engine is concerned!

Don't Forget Germany's 2-10-0 52 8055!

Currently the Most BadAss Modern Steam Locomotive in the World. :)

You might be interested to know, the guy who did the modifications to the german locomotive...is the same one that designed the 5AT. The German locomotive is proof of concept that his ideas will work.

Thats right, that locomotive reffered to by Sampug394, I think is the meanest locomotive so far!
