Moving TRS19 Data

Replaced 120gb SDD with a 500GB ssd. Moved data from 120gb SDD to a hard drive in preparation. Copy Pasts of the folder was used and no issues. When the 150gb SSD arrived I copied the folder from the hard drive to the the new 550gb SSD. Somethings did not get copied. Tried a few more times and rechecked the hard disk, Trainz said it was ok. Now what do I do?

Well I tried copying the individual files to the 150gb SSD and that worked. So just a hint if you find you copy does not always work.

I have had a similar experience when moving a large quantity of data from one device (a HDD), to a second device (a portable SSD) for transport and then onto a third device (a HDD) on a computer at another location. It took a second attempt the next day (due to the traveling required between the locations) before it was successful. It was not a Trainz problem but I strongly suspect a Windows problem, or an antivirus problem.

It's probably the antivirus stuffing things up. They like to do that when copying files if you haven't noticed. More recently when manually copying files to a new drive, I will exclude the destination drive and any folder on that new drive from scanning. This prevents the A/V from stomping on those files and causing problems.

If I need to copy huge amounts of content, I will use Fast Copy.

You can allocate a large buffer of RAM to hold data to speed up the copying process. It also has other features too such as diff-copying, moving, and even deleting. I use the program from my Trainz data backups.

On your advice I downloaded and tried FastCopy on moving a smaller set of data (1,200 files, 52MB) from a HDD to an external SDD and it worked very well. I will use it for Trainz DB and install file backups.

I'm glad it worked for you. The other thing I forgot to mention is that it doesn't calculate first before copying. It just does it making the process faster.
