More new assets I've imported

OK, since I never uploaded anything to the DLS before, I just did a test upload with the Harrier Jumpjet. If all goes well and it's accepted I will start uploading more content.

I had a look at the Harrier. There doesn't seem to be any texture files but the .im file at 1,271kb is very large. Any idea how many polys this thing is? Do I assume that you've managed to combine the texture file into the .im file in some way?

oddly, some of the sketchup files I have converted to 3ds files didn't produce texture files and they were built into the mesh. I'm not sure on the poly count of that model. Actually I don't know how to find the poly count in blender. I'm still very new to all this.

Fascinating you're finding out all sorts of things about Blender and the exporter I didn't know about.

Want to be nice and flip me the harrier blend file and I'll have a look to see if I can spot what is going on. I have an idea but it's at odds with the way its supposed to work.

No problem John. I didn't save the blend file but I can go back and import it again and make one. Sketchup did not produce any texture files with the 3ds though. Let me know what you find out.


Another version of the USS Boone Guided Missle Frigate. I will be uploading this version and not the first one because although it is sort of high poly it is a lot lower than the first version.

Just downloaded the Miami police car. This model has me intrigued. It seems to have no texture (image) files or texture.txt files associated with it. Just a config.txt and a .im. But the textures all show up just as in the screenshot - how the heck does the texturing on this model work? Or is this what Blender does?

The other curious thing; it appears to be a fairly simple, boxy sort of mesh. I was expecting maybe 800-1000 polygons at most, but it contains nearly 9000 polygons. That's pretty high considering the appearance. What's going on with this beast?

Lol, you are just as intrigued as I was. I have been messing around with google sketchup quite a bit. The way some of the models I have put up are made were that the mesh itself was colored in sketechup and graphics added using lines, etc so its all built into the mesh. I didn't realize this about some of the models until I converted them to 3ds files and imported them to blender. I know using textured would lower polys quite a bit but I'm just not good enough yet. How did you check the poly count by the way? I know how to using blender.
 
yeah, I use PevSoft I just didn't know it counted the polys. I try to uncheck the double sided option now in Blender but unfortunately that model and a bunch of others it didn't look right at all so I had to keep it double sided which I believe doubles the count from what John tells me.
 
If anyone has downloaded the APC, I have put an updated version on the DLS. I didn't realize how ridiculously high the poly count on the old one was so I brought it down considerably. Still a little bit high but way lower than the original. It should be approved within a few hours. I am going to be lowering poly count on a few models just so everyone knows.
 
For anyone working on a layout in the American desert, I've put some Vegas Casinos on the DLS dont with Google Earth Imagery. I'll put some more on soon.

Excellent work!!! Unfortunately I'm still using TRS2006 and most of these wonderful assests are only for TRS 2009-2010. Any plans to make these assets available in 2006? Keep up the great work!!
 
Have you tried changing the version number in the Config file? I use 2009 so it automatically makes the models for 2009. I don't see why most of them still wouldn't work in 06 but I don't know for sure.
