Montreal Show, February 21-22, 2009

since 10 Aug 2002
I was recently informed that the Montreal group who puts on the model train show under the CN viaduct is planning on hosting another show on February, 21-22, 2009.

Now that TS2009 WBE is out and TEE is around the corner, this time we have something real to show.

The question is, do we want to do a show? I see it as a step towards the future of train simulation. TS2009 has the ease of use from earlier versions with some exciting new features. Some of these are obvious and others are under the hood. As I mentioned to Denis, one of the organizers, WBE was just to whet your appetite. It gives content creators a platform to build objects and routes that will take advantage of these new features. Meanwhile the built-in assets from previous versions can still be used, even if in compatibility mode, to keep you busy while you wait.

Please reply and let me know if you are able to join us for a fun weekend. Do you have a portable system with TS2009 installed? We will probably get a six or eight foot table on which we can demonstrate Trainz. Ideally, one system can loop some demo routes while someone can show how easy it is to create in Surveyor on another system.

If this is a model railroad show, it is a perfect time to demonstrate Trainz! If you make a layout using mcguirl's FasTrack, this really takes advantage of how you can use Trainz to design a model railroad. Wish I could be there.
Cheers.

It's not too late plan on joining us at the Montreal Show

See here for a pamphlet about the show

and here for some more information and a map.

This has always been a prime event, with more ambiance than you can shake a stick at. Located under the CN mainline that enters Montreal's Central Station from the south, the rumble and vibration as the big rigs pass overhead is something to be experienced. And if you time it just right by having a big diesel on the screen just as the sound effects happen, you can get people wondering where the massive subwoofers are located.

If you can't be there the whole show, stop by our table and say hello anyway. We look forward to meeting you.

After the first day at the show, we have 3 more potential Trainzers in the Montreal area. Actually, 3 more potential TS2009 Trainzers since they all mentioned that they had previous versions and were looking to upgrade. There was some mild interest in the previous versions but the consumer mindset is for the latest and greatest. :( Most of the visitors appeared to be model railroad people, so apart from those looking to upgrade, there was little real interest in the virtual side of things. Although several were interested in the potential to replicate their model layouts with an eye to future expansion. Trainz would be an ideal platform to test possible new configurations. Even the host club expressed an interest in reproducing their massive HO layout in Trainz. Both as a way to document the work that has already been done as well as to test future expansion.

In March the Greater Florida LEGO Train Club has a display coming up at Plant City, and I would agree about taking Trainz to a train show and showing it to others. It will bring new fans to the community. I have 09 on my laptop and will bring it to Plant City.

Today is the day! I hope you guys have a good time. I can't come because I'm only 15 and going to Canada is not in my families plans right now. If I do get to go in the future, I will be sure to stop by!
Cheers!
