Monorail 2006

I've decided to try my luck (usually BAD) at adding a monorail to my layout. I was able to locate all I need (?) to make a rail - add cars, speedboards, beamtop visual signals, track direction, & markers...(copied from what was on the Demo2). All went well till I tried to ZOOM it (1 car only) around my quick set-up oval. One thing I DO know.........12MPH IS NOT ZOOM ! I tried (thru query) to set up the signals & speedboards properties, but nothing opened that would allow settings to be added. I looked at Demo2's edit screen & duplicated it. MY signals appear to be ok , Gr-Gr-Yl-Red. I've placed several speedboards along the track. What am I missing? THANX

Without looking at your layout it's difficult to tell. If you leave all the signals and speed signs off and just use bare track, the top speed is somewhere around 70+ MPH, which is faster than the 45 MPH used on the real system, but slower than the 100+ speeds the real trains are capable of flat out on a straight stretch.

Try a simple oval with just track and a cab and see what it will do. Then add the goodies that make it more realistic. Note that the MAPO system will not allow a train to run if there is another train in the next or second next section of upcoming track (as defined by signals in this project).

See the TRS2006 thread named Monorail Information for info on how to download the release notes, which contain all the information you should need.

Hope you have a good time with the Monorail Project.

Well, I've had a chance to do this.........If I control the train, no problems. If I add a station & tell the train to drive to it I'm back to the same problem. Add a speed board & still 4/5 MPH. At a complete loss on this!

First things first department

Have you installed and committed the monorail content from the DVD/CD set?Have you downloaded and committed all the most recent monorail content? That would be everything in DLS with author ID of JFE. Next question: do the two demos (Epcot and Monorail Demo 2) run smoothly?

If all the above answers are 'yes', there must be something you did or didn't do in setting up your test beam that is causing the problem.

BTW, the Epcot demo is a simple loop with a station stop. Could be a good example to study. I'd suggest starting with it and adding just a single speed board. Assuming that works, add just one feature at a time and retest.

Monorail Demo 2 employs pretty much all the monorail features including speed boards and runs as expected on many systems.

I'll check the DVD & downloads you suggested.........If I run a simple loop w/out a station, (I have to have something for AI to drive to) will a marker do as well? There's never been a problem when I control the cab, only when I set it up to assign it to run. THANX so much for taking the time with this. I'm a bit unsure of the content on the DVD. (I thought everything was done in the initial install). Will explore the disk..............
