Mojave Sub Coupler Breaking Problem - Any Patch Yet?

I just purchased Trainz 2012, mostly to run the Mojave Sub.

The coupler breaking problem makes this route unplayable.

I tried modifying the scenario to change the point at which the couplers break, but still unplayable.

Has the patch fixing this been issued, and if not when will it be issued?

Thanks,

Robert

Hello, no patch or need update 49922 I had same issue so you can delete on edit session: vehicle physics and coupler breaking check then save to own route that default route is read only not save!!
but you need register your ts12 serial numbers on Planet Auran !!!

I also battled but I let the driver do the taking off in the beginning and then take over when the speed of the train has picked up ( if you don't want to play with the physics )

Hi John:

Never thought of that - great idea. :D

Could you post step by step instructions on how to do this? I'm not sure if I need to create a second copy of the route, along with a copy of each session.

Thanks,

Robert

Hi Robert,

Please register your TS12 so it shows up in your track schematic. This will be helpful going forward for support.

You come from Jamaica Plain?

Hi John:

I believe TS12 was registered when I did the initial install, as I have the lastest version, 49922. I'll check - let me know where the track schematic is located.

Actually, I'm from Queens, NY. Is Jamaica Plain near you?

Thanks,

Robert

Go on to Planet Auran and resgister your serial number up there too. This will put it up in the schematic.

Yup. We have a Forrest Hills and Jamaica Plain up here in Mass. It's south of Boston in the Hyde Park and Dorchester area.

I've been to Forrest Hills and Jamaica in New York. My mom has a friend that lived out there. I was really, really young and we visited during the 1964 World's Fair. I still remember the visit and the World's Fair. :)

It's OK - I now see you have TS12 registered.

Next thing to check is that the 5-digit number at the bottom-right corner of the Launcher screen is 49922.

Your next stage is to install the content updates. This can be done by clicking Content Updates, then click Download All. The updates will download in the background.

Do not expect to see a patch to fix this. It can be a challenge, but it is quite prototypical.

Have a look at this article on the subject of "Tractive Effort vs Horsepower" by Al Krug:

http://www.alkrug.vcn.com/rrfacts/hp_te.htm

If you scroll halfway down you will find a tabel of tractive effort at different speeds. You will see that it is highest at low speed. Creeping carefully along will give you a knuclebreaker. After you get the train moving, you need to notch up to prevent breakage.

Hi me again so you can edit route then open edit session on default route look for list on vehicle physics and coupler breaking check and click on it then delete then save mojave sub division1 or a what u chose last letter then play on drive
practice yourself or enjoy view what you look like then challenge what locomotive take to prevent coupler break

Can All Available Sessions Be Copied To New Route?

John:

I might be thinking MSTS here, so please correct me if it can't be done in Trainz:

When you created mojave sub division1, were all the sessions with the original Mojave created also? I was able to create a "Mojave Sub Division - New", but only have 1 of the original sessions is available.

I'm thinking of how MSTS has the activities within the route, so that copying the route also copies all the activities. Again, not sure if this can be done in Trainz 2012.

Thanks,

Robert

Al Krug is definitely the man on this issue. I'm familiar with his work, and it's excellent.

The problem with this route is the coupler breaking occurs immediately upon opening a saved session. There's no way to use any skill in this case.

There is 4 session in the Mojave Sub, the 1st one (ATSF #991 EAST) which is medium difficulty, duration 2.45 hrs. Only available control in the Cab mode, all realistic. I've finished this route, and believe or not only one thing to do, put the Independent Brake ON. (E button) All the way. This brake can reduce the terrifying power forces which occur while you trying to pull that long freight train all the way up on the hill until 3000+ feet. You have to control the power throttle, up/down, and if its still necessary, apply the train brakes. NO COUPLER BREAKING will occur. But the 2nd session, from Mojave to Bakersfield, you can't make this route in the Cab mode.. the critical distance where the couplers breaking will occur is between 3.5 and 4.5 miles. I've tried everything possible cab control functions variables, and doesn't help. Only available mode is in the DCC mode, where you can make it. So maybe a patch really not a bad idea. Cheers.

All you have to do to prevent coupler breaking when entering from a save point is reduce the power a bit.. not all the way as they will break then as well.. don't know how as under braking it has nothing to do with the couplers.

My question for today is does the lead train ever sound its horn for you to couple to it in the DPU Push scenario? I have waited 10 minutes and no horn, then if you go to the other train and blow the horn yourself, when you hook up you get the good ole broken couplers message.

Idiotic.. You pay good money for the software and it doesn't work properly.

Yeah the lead train sounds its horn shortly after its stopping , but true, you have to open your ears wide to hear something. Try push horn in your train, will notice the same quietly horn sound. The broken couplers message will occur indeed, almost always. So its quite a "challenge" to make these sessions done. I think we need a REAL freight train driver from Mojave Sub to explain how to avoid breaking the couples. Properly. ( I'll get fired instantly with that company breaking the couplers so many times) :) PS: might the couplers are very sensitive , even 1 mph speed could brake them to pieces.
