Missing KUIDs - how to delete?

Hello

Yes, I know, another message about missing KUIDs!

My computer has broken - don't know why, but that isn't the problem.

Got another computer, thinking "Ah-ha, I have all my work backed up" Turns out I don't! I have restored my work, but they show up with a few missing dependencies. These are, in fact, my own work, so I can't get them from anywhere.

They are simple clones of other things where I have made some slight change. I'm not worried about them, I can easily reload the layout and replace the missing bits. The problem is, TS2010 won't show the layouts in the "Routes" window for me to open.

Is there any way to get Trainz to ignore the dependencies? I have thought about going into the "config.txt" file, and simply deleting the missing KUIDs from the KUID Table. But will this cause the whole thing to go haywire? Presumably, somewhere in the map, those KUIDs are linked somehow to where they were in the layout...

Anybody have any good ideas? Apart, of course, from doing better backups in the future!!

Thanks
Chris

Comprehension is a must

Hi Chris - Let me tell you some more useless information.

Yesterday the guy came from the phone company to install my broadband router. Yes, I have been on dial-up since 2004 and have nearly always run Trainz off line, except when I am downloading from DLS.

So I never ever needed to do an Extended Database Repair (EDR). It just worked flawlessly. Today I was on line and doing some work on a new driver command. I wanted to reload the asset from a cdp file to make sure that I had the right version loaded.

Instead of deleting the doubtful asset I disabled it and then imported the same asset from my backup. Suddenly, I could not open the asset for edit in CPP as it was already open for edit. I could not revert it as that option was greyed out. So was the delete option. I was totally stuck.

So I did what I had never needed to do before - first a Quick Database Repair. That didn't fix it. Then an EDR. Fixed! Before doing this, I disconnected the internet.

Now to your problem: First, in CM make a backup of the route for your own security.
Then try deleting the kuids of the missing assets if you know what they are. If it doesn't work, restore the config file backup.

Alternatively, try taking any small asset in explorer and and copying it to a temporary folder. Change the username to something distinctive such as ZYXXY.
Then change the kuid to the missing one and re-import it as content.
Repeat for each missing asset, using a different username. Perhaps, with luck, the route will then show up in the list.

But before doing anything, how about an EDR?

What I've done is to copy the old TS2010 folder to the other hard drive, double click on trainz.exe, then select Content to open content manager. Select all my work-in-progress stuff, save to CDP. Start the new TS2010, into content manager for that, import the CDP.

As for the routes themselves;

"The problem is, TS2010 won't show the layouts in the "Routes" window for me to open."

If this is your first experience with TS2010, be advised it defaults to showing only "favorite" routes and showing only "favorite" assets in surveyor, unless you're the guy who selected all these as "favorites" you need to turn that off.

go into survryor go to main menu,, detele missing asstes

Thanks ct-krogen, that sounds like a great suggestion - but I can't find anywhere in the menu that has that option. Since the route doesn't show up in Surveyor, though, would that work anyway? If you can give me more information on where to find the "Delete missing assets" option is that would be great...

Take the drive out of the old comp and put it in the working one.

Would have done that, fran1, except it was a Raid 0 array. Don't know how to re-mount the drives onto a different motherboard, then restore the array.

Hi sniper297.

(1) Copy from old TS2010 folder. Yup, shure would do that, if I had access to the old TS2010 folder. As I said, the old computer is dead.

(2) Show favorites. Yes, have used TS2010 virtually since it came out, I know about that one.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, I don't have access to the old disc drive but still have some missing assets. Surely it is possible to tell Trainz to delete the missing ones out of the config somehow?

Oh, well. I'll keep on messing with it.

Cheers
Chris

Delete missing assets is in the menu in surveyor.

Missing assets won't stop a route from appearing you would seem to have some other sort of problem. You have unticked the Yellow Star in the Route Menu?
