missing dependencies

Looking for help getting started adding content. I have begun downloading some freeware (holding my wallet closed until I know how to do this and can be certain it works) and keep getting missing dependencies when I try to select a route. I have added the dependencies called for by the freeware site provider, but there seems to be dependencies upon dependencies upon dependencies and an all inclusive list is incomplete at best.
Is there a place to start in order to be certain all the dependencies are present when trying to add content?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Best place to start is probably the Download Station. From your launch window select "Manage Content", and then change the filter setting at the top left from "Installed" to "Download station. There is a world of content, and for the most part, if any dependencies are needed they will also be available on the DLS and you can just right-click on any that say "Available for Download" and select "Download". This is not 100%, as some assets get uploaded with outside dependencies, but your chances are better. The big hitch is probably routes, which often have outside and hard to find dependencies. But there are some outstanding route creators on the DLS that only use assets from DLS. Philskene is a great one if you like Model Railroad layouts. Also msgsapper, grazlash, whamm0 and many others. Secondly, try the Freeware forum below. Many of these assets are DLS, but even if they are not, the creators make every effort to ensure there are links to needed dependencies, and, if you have any missing, you can post in their thread for help. Great gaming to you!

Hi

I download Thomas reskins and I seem to be having missing dependencies that have "unknown asset" in the content manager.

It has already been discussed in this forum that some dependencies of Thomas products for Trainz are very difficult to get, maybe because some website is missing.
A few months ago I listed about 30 websites that had Thomas content for Trainz, with downloadable content of about 50 GB.
https://forums.auran.com/trainz/sho...ith-content-from-Thomas&p=1878690#post1878690

If you download all that content (50GB) , I can assure you that of those 12 kuids you are looking for you will only find 2, that's why it is almost impossible to find them.

This is the element that takes so much of the fun out of using this app, I'm in the position where even though I've worked on a route and used content that I've downloaded over the years, at some point in time I've deleted some assets and now I'm in the position of having to replace them as I just cannot find them anymore.i backed up everything repeatedly, but crashes an accidents happen and despite all precautions , i still have a few dozen items that i cannot locate. The poisoned cherry on top of the cake is that you cant tell what these missing assets are, as they are unknown. Auran made the mistake of allowing other sites to host items that are not on the DLS and the result is that as people leave the game and sites close down , we find more and more assets that cannot be replicated. its enough to try the patience of a saint.

I don't understand why Auran doesn't conclude a contract with the right holders of TTE and make a DLC / expansion . I think they could sell more copies of TANE / TRS19 in this way .

I really don't see how Auran/N3V could prevent 3rd party sites from hosting .cdp files without a large (and expensive) legal department to pursue violators, through the courts if necessary (add more $$$$) and across different jurisdictions (even more $$$$). We would all end up paying the bill through higher prices and probably more anti-piracy protection (DRM is more than enough for some). Trainz is not such a big player in the gaming market to make that effort justifiable and economic.

Probably licencing fees, restrictions on use, a percentage of sales to the licence holder (which as of 2011 is Mattel, the toy maker), etc. How much would that affect the price of the TTE DLC pack?

The current most expensive DLC pack is $US39.99, plus the cost of TRS19 (basic version) which can be as high as $US69.99 (but can be on sale for far less), puts a hefty price tag on buying a TTE simulator. I don't know how anyone could estimate the number of TTE fans, given their most common age demographic, who would be interested in buying a fully fledged railway simulator just to get TTE? I hasten to add that I am not a TTE fan!

In full skeptic mode.

My comment really related to the fact that what wasn't much of a problem in the early days has now become a huge one , as more and more legacy content mounts up , and more external sites fall off the tree , more and more older routes are falling prey to unknown Kuid disease . What might have seemed like a good idea a decade or so ago, is now something of a minefield. The only way to prevent or at least discourage external sites would be some sort of mechanism to prevent routes that contained items that weren't hosted on the DLS from being uploaded.it would have taken a deal of foresight to set that up. I'm glad that more people are uploading to the dls recently as this may help put salve on the asset wounds , but a site like trains Italia not hosting its freeware anymore ( I know it's supposed to be returning, but it's been months since the downloads section is empty of some classic routes ) is a big blow to me at least. I used a lot of freely available content from there and I'm currently replacing items I can no longer depend on being there as I want to share routes , not keep them in house .Now I know that this possibility is there, I won't ever include third party items in routes I wish to share, but when I started , it wasn't a problem I was aware of. A large warning included in the CM when one imports external assets might be in order, something along the lines of " be aware that this asset is not hosted on the dls and may not be available for others to use if you ever upload this route to dls servers " might be of help to route builders who wish to share their work freely :(

I won't ever include third party items in routes I wish to share, but when I started , it wasn't a problem I was aware of.

I also used 3rd party assets in my very early days but quickly realised the dangers of that. It was also too easy in those days to upload a route with foreign assets without realising it - there was no "3rd party" status flag in what was the early equivalent of CM back then. So there was often no acknowledgement in the routes description of 3rd party assets and where to find them. That frustrated me no end so now if I download a route that has assets that are not included in Trainz or on the DLS then I simply delete it. Today CM will flag non-DLS installed assets as "3rd party" so there is no excuse.

I always include in the description of my uploaded routes a note stating that all assets are on the DLS or built in.

My policy is to not install anything from 3rd party sites, no matter how good the assets are claimed to be or how reliable the site "appears" to be. I note that in the last few years a few 3rd party sites have had the foresight to upload all their unique assets to the DLS before they closed their doors - that is real customer support!

A large warning included in the CM when one imports external assets might be in order, something along the lines of " be aware that this asset is not hosted on the dls and may not be available for others to use if you ever upload this route to dls servers " might be of help to route builders who wish to share their work freely :(

That would be nice but I suspect that many uploaders would not remember the warning or be concerned by it.

My thoughts.

A Majority of those TTTE sites have Discord Servers, you can join them and ask for the Kuids

It is "DDD Wall red brick 02" (spline) and is "Packaged" in "Cornish Mainline and Branches - TRS19" DLC route.
